i just started 2-3 days ago. I beat him on the 5th try. Once you learn his patterns its fairly simple. On his thunder form i caught his lighting first try and just obliterated him. Really awesome fight. It really helped the prompt guide that pops up when the lighting arrives. jump, left click, and right click before falling down. Feels more fun when i beat elden ring. The grappling and sneaking makes it feel like assassin creeds and sly cooper wtih dark souls

Probably like 40 or 50 tries. It was the best feeling when I finally got him. Beat guardian ape on 2nd try and double ape on first try. These are just way easier or I got better?

You just got better because you can't really bully guardian ape.

Probably about 90mins for first Genichiro kill (at the midgame section, not the post tutorial encounter). Was on hard mode (aka Xbox) where the framerate and frametimes were awful, to the point that you had to guess or get lucky with the parry timings (and especially the lighting deflect in last phase, as just had to be ready to hit jump and then mash light attack).

It was so bad that after beating him (which again was down to a bit of hope and get lucky in last phase with the timing) I purchased the Steam/PC version instead and got back to the same point in a couple hours. Beat him 2nd try on PC (could actually see the starting animations for the attacks/combos and react to incoming attacks light lightning etc instead of guess work).

Guardian Ape was probably my favourite boss fight in the game, as felt closest to a traditional Souls/Bloodborne Monster boss (with the added bonus of the parrying being a lot of fun once he loses his head and starts swinging the sword). A shame the consecutive parry mechanic was never integrated into Elden Ring - would have improved a lot of those boss fights.

Demon of Hatred was the worst boss (aside from repetitive headless fights).
