If you ask me, I always vote for Sekiro, basically my favorite game of all time that I took further and started learning skips and speedrunning.
Sekiro has an advanced melee combat system where you really feel every single hit and the flow of the fight, enemies respond to your every action, while ER with its RPG elements gives you a lot of opportunities with stats, weapons, spells and builds, but not this flow and feel of the fight. It gives diversity
Sekiro is action, ER is action-rpg. The point is they're very different, better try both and see for yourself which one you like more
The main disadvantages of Elden Ring compared to Sekrio are:
1. The open world: It is fun to explore, and while I don't think it ever felt like a "chore", after playing Sekiro I realized having a crafted story and path made for a much for polished experience. In summary, the enjoyment per second is a lot higher in Sekiro than in Elden Ring due to a lot of the wandering you end up having to do in the latter.
2. Boss fights against large enemies and duos aren't particularly fun: A combination of awkward camera angles (the true boss of any FromSoft game) and your primary method of avoiding damage being dodge rolling can make a lot of these fights feel unfair or laborious. And there are plenty of these if you're trying to finish the entire game and not just the main story. In contrast, Sekiro's core mechanic is parrying, which makes for a much more intense back-and-forth fight with the boss. Still extremely hard - but also extremely fair. You always know you died because you messed up, and not because the enemy threw some random combination of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attacks your way.
In terms of story, the two have slightly different approaches. While both favor FromSoft's indirect storytelling, comparatively the story in Sekiro is presented more directly/intimately, meaning you do not have to go hunting _too much_ (it's still a FromSoft game, so a lot of the lore has to be learnt from the environment and items and side quests) to make sense of things. It also leaves you more attached to the main character and the people he interacts with. The story in Elden Ring is equally good, and the world it is set in has deeper lore around it than Sekiro, but that lore requires many tens of hours exploring the world and reading flavor text to really understand what is going on.
TL;DR: Both are fun games with good stories. Sekiro is more enjoyment per minute, and features a much more polished combat system with a more direct story. Elden Ring has more exploring and a wider variety of character builds if combat is not your main focus.
Hope this helps! Remember - you can't go wrong either way!
I went totally blind in elden ring, tought i got teleported on the outskirt of the map right at the start only to realize when i first unveil a part of the map that it was just the nieghbourhood, this and overall combat (I went in a From software looking for parry mechanic) are the moment I knew I'd choose Sekiro.
Don't get me wrong my little time with Elden Ring was awesome, had a really nice moment fighting this Tree sentinel right at the start but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ _ The scale of this game looks insane ! I will love it when I ll have more time on my hands like I did with Zelda BotW ^^
Sekiro is FAR better in every aspect
The only two I 100% on PC.
It's a matter of preference but I like Elden Ring way more than Sekiro.
Both are masterpieces but Elden Ring is more accessible but also bigger and giving you more options.
Elden Ring doesn't have normal storytelling. The story is so vague you need hours of Youtube videos to understand what is going on. I still love it but not everybody likes that aproach.
Sekiro has very simple story and game mechanics with one weapon but it's so freaking hard it can be frustrating. I'm an OK player and was struggling with many bosses sometimes for hours.
No bloat, no crap. Best open world game in ages along with RDR2.
But they are VERY different games overall. And also, Elden Ring on PC runs a bit meh, if you don't have a PS5 to play on it, you will get stuttering issues due to shader compilation and there is NO way out of that on PC, that's just how the game will run because of DX12.
Sekiro is a much more focused experience, a very different take on From Software titles, very unique. Good characters, story, voice acting, supreme combat, stealth, boss fights.
You can't go wrong with either of those. But honestly, if i had to pick one, even if Elden Ring was my personal GOTY, i would go with Sekiro. The PC port is superb. My 1060 6GB can run this maxed out with downsampling and it looks freaking amazing, not to mention plays amazing because the animations are so good.
And it isn't as linear as people make it out to be, you have choices on where to go first, next, etc. It's pretty much in similar vein of Dark Souls, just a bit lighter.
It's not an RPG per se, you only have your main weapon, weapon arts and prosthetic tools.
However there is big depth when it comes to combat. You might think one weapon will get stale, but with all the options you have, and how the combat was designed with that weapon with mind, it won't be. There is stealth, heavy verticality, one kill blows, stealth kill blows, posture bar, aerial executions, etc.
Also, Sekiro IS harder than Elden Ring. That's just an objective fact. Neither of those games are too hard as people claim them to be, but Sekiro has just the right difficulty curve and skill check.
There are like hundreds of streamers playing it on PC and it runs perfectly fine for them.
It runs perfectly fine for me as well on just Radeon 5700xt. 1440p everything on high, textures on max. Stable 60fps with freesync on.
People have problems with this game because they have problems with their PC they weren’t aware of. Like XMP switched off in BIOS.
