Why Do People Hate The Demon Of Hatred So Much?
People often regard it as a "dark souls boss that found it's way into sekiro" and that's not wrong at all, but many would also cite this as the reason for why it's bad, which I don't get. It's not as though it's a bad dark souls boss, and it's still optional if you're really that set on dueling humans. If I had to rank the fight, I'd give it a solid B

It just kind of doesn't fit the game in terms of gameplay. It's health pool is also massive especially with the demon bell+charmless setup on ng+7.

Phase 3 is also super annoying if you don't malcontent him, turning it into a big waiting game when he charges outside the flame circle. THe malcontent strat is also obscure and most people likely don't know about it on their first playthroughs, myself included.

He's a big dumb flailing monkey man that at worst, is boring to fight against, and at best is a test for your yashi sugar+mortal blade damage attacks.

I think people don't like The Demon Of Hatred because all its attacks can't deflect. This game focuses on deflection and iframes of jump and dash not as good as roll of Dark souls.

I found it one of the most consistent bosses to defeat... About his attacks, what can be avoided is easy to avoid and what can be deflected is easy to deflect. Most of his attacks can be easily deflected, though some still inflict Burn and it's best to avoid them.

He's one of the few bosses in the entire game that you can't use the "deflect and hold if I do it too early" technique that allows one to sleep through the rest of the combat in Sekiro. Of course people hate him.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I had the most fun learning his moveset on my first playthrough, and while I never dreaded fighting him on subsequent NG+ cycles or gauntlets, his flaws were immediately exposed after completing my first charmless demon bell run. Even with 13 attack power, confetti, and mastery over the moveset, the fight took me multiple 5 minute attempts.

There's no "sleeping through the combat" in this game. If you get cocky, you die, again.
