If you can't defeat Genichiro
After trying 100th attempts, if you are not able to defeat Genichiro, do this:

Just leave the game for sometime, like 1-2 months.

Come back again, and most likely, you will defeat him.

Atleast, thats what happened in my case :)

You just have to keep on practicing. I am 42 years old and this game kept my reflexes sharp. The game test to you the tip of the sword. Just keep practicing and suddenly you thing will get automated. I beat Isshin, the sword Saint about an hour ago and just had to get good on Mikiri counter. As I wrote in my post this counter was like a lottery for me throughout the game. It sometimes worked but too often not. In the fight with this boss I had to feel when to press the button at the right time to use the counter. And suddenly it worked every single time. I just had to switch my mind into auto mode :D

As I see it the game is very rewarding if you practice a little bit. Good luck :steamthis:

Wow! Seniors club then 😁 Congrats with the achievement. Just out of curiousity, did you fight him many times?

Story of my life in the game 😁

It was after that I stopped concentrating on the enemys life bar and turned the focus on the posture bar, that was when the game clicked for me.

This is literally true. Back in April 2020 i was struggling at genchiro and stop playing, around 8 months later i came back to the game and beat him 3rd try

I stopped playing it for about a year lol came back a few months ago, got re-familiarized with it, did the side bosses I couldn't do before, and beat him the same day. I was like... WTF.

You can use the lightning and deflect. This fight is literally a final test of what you learned and punishes you for trying to run away. Hesitation truly is defeat. The key to being decent at this game's combat are the enemy attack patterns, and how well you can deflect. The trick I tend to use is tap and sometimes hold L1 so damage is not taken for unexpected moves from enemies. The game literally gives you the tools necessary for killing the final boss, but unlike other souls games you have to have actual knowledge and proficiency with the combat. You can't pull a Dark Souls or Elden ring here and abuse the final boss aside from the 3rd phase. I recommend beating a few more bosses that you may have missed if you are struggling with him although the damage output itself will not speed up the fight.

In my opinion the Dark Souls games are overhyped. Yes, you have tons of weapons and armor but it is boring. I have beat all three and it is fun but Sekiro takes it to a new level. I have not actually had to get gud in the Souls games. But in Sekiro it becomes a personal vendetta. At least for me. The final boss is in my opinion the final skill test. I knew from the Genichiro fight that if I dont beat him flawlessly I have not got in the rhythm yet.

Of all the From software games Sekiro and Bloodborne are the best in my opinion. Sekiro at the top.
