I was trying to farm it so I could have more for the Gauntlets, but beat the last one I needed in 1 try without needing them... I'll try getting rid of all the rice first in my next playthrough (then the snow) and see if Child colaborates.
Fine Snow is a bit more powerful than Rice. But you can only get another Fine Snow from the Divine Child if you have used your Fine Snow plus there is no Rice in your inventory.
In any case, you can only use ONE rice or ONE Fine Snow during a fight. If you used one during a fight, you will not see them in your inventory, even if you have more than one before the fight.
However, Sweet rice is slight different. After Kuro has given you the first batch (containing 2 sweet rice), if you go away to other location and then go back to his chamber idol, talk to him, if the conversation starts with something like, "oh, it's you....." he will give you another batch of 2 sweet rices. This will happen again if you have used up ALL the sweet rice in your inventory. But this will not happen if you defeat the Divine Dragon for obvious reason, since you won't be able to meet Kuro until you have defeated the final boss, Isshin the Sword Saint.
You can end up having more than ONE rice in your inventory by playing NG+, then another NG++, etc., gaining ONE rice for each playthrough. For the very reason mentioned above, you cannot have more than ONE Fine Snow if you want to keep the Rices in your inventory. If you want more Fine Snow by playing NG+, NG++, and so on, you can only end up having one Rice in your inventory. However, the number of sweet rice can go up by 4 in each playthrough. But by the time you are playing NG+4, or +5, you will find yourself skillful enough not using any type of rice, i.e. the usual Gourd potion and pellets will be enough.
Hope these help. Have fun and good luck.
Yes, I meant to say specifically Rice in my title, but your post mentioned what I was also indirectly referring to (getting all the juicy healing items from Kuro and DC).
However, it is also true that while I was frustrated with the Gauntlet, when I came back to it, I beat it first try (Shura one -- I was having issue with Fire Isshin, then for some reason kept getting hit by Hatred, and the final Owl was then too much). I played through the game on NG+3 charmless (which made it feel like completely relearning the game since so many timings I was used to now got punished), and when I went back to NG+4 and started with charm as a comparison I felt like I had cheat codes on.
That's one thing I love about these FromSoft games, grinding 100k experience for 2 more damage is really meaningless, the real "leveling up" is focusing on mistakes and learning to improve -- especially in this game compared to their others. I remember earlier on facing Owl/Isshin at a medium distance and trying to defensively bait/defend all of their attacks before going in, vs now walking up to them and attacking until I'm forced to deflect or respond to a specific action, then walk up again and continue... both strategies are viable, which I admire about the design of this game.
Well done Sir, you are one of the few that have found the true essence of Sekiro. :)
