Pretty sure it's a whole new IP.

I bet there will be references though.
UwUthanizer Mar 18, 2019 @ 10:53am
nope, it's a completely different setting, a more mythical version of sengoku era japan

Different IP. Dark Souls 1-3, Demons Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro are all 4 separate universes

Has no ties to any game, other then being a Tenchu spiritual successor but even then, it isn't tied to Tenchu.

I think From might go back and retry their hands at making a real Tenchu sequel after this but its purely speculations.

Wrong everyone! From already stated this is a direct prequal to dark souls. Sekiro is set in a fantasy version of medevil japan. The main characters decendants move to another dimenshnon where the world of darksouls exist. This is a shard univese with the movie the laboryngth.
PS. I apologi for any words I acidontly speled charactly, english is my first langwage.

I disagree that they are that different. They all share quite a few similarities, some lore, NPCs, and weapons. TONS of game mechanics.

As for this game, so far it's being touted as a completely new IP, with no Patches, no Moonlight Greatsword, etc. Voiced protagonist, an actual story unfolding. I don't know. Obviously it will feel a little Soulsborne-like, but I think Sekiro is it's own thing.

well euopean style straight sword were not common in japan and curved cutting blades served lest the people of japan just fine.

a no dachi would have been the closest thing to a greatsword but was a anti calvary sword and has some use vs pole arm troops. Not wieldly at all like most eu great sword which were fairly mobile for their size, a no dachi wants to go the way it wants to go once it gets going. but it was supposed to be chopping the legs off horses at full gallop.

Eh maybe these eras are all linked, be kinda of interesting if death ridden or violent times create souls like universes of the dammed. Obviously this is set in a bloody war torn era of japan that raged for centuries. bb could have been set during the black plague or ww1. souls could have been the waystation for some "hell on earth" era set among medevil swords and scorery times.

But its flat easier to just make them their own thing and not tangle up the lore any more.

Bloodborne and Demon's Souls at least are heavily hinted to take place in the same universe. Hell, Gascoigne had an "Umbassa" line in the alpha that was removed from the final version.

Looks unique to me. Personally, I gave up on From and their "difficult" over all other aspects of games. No atmosphere, no story, bland maps and characters. They really lost me on their games compared to the past (King's Field series). If they start putting in skill level settings, I may come back, but I don't see any reason to buy anything they sell from here on out. Woefully lacking.
