Use the loaded spear on headless' head wound after you parry his slashes three times.
Just use the butterfly umbrella on the first stage and use a million shuriken/kunai on the brown ape in the second stage. Kill the brown ape first. You should be a master of fighting the headless ape after. Make sure to always parry the headless ape's big overhead strike to get a big opening.
For the most part, the apes 'take turns' and if you realize what triggers them to swap, it becomes much easier to be in control of phase 2.
By default, focus Headless ape. When he is doing his non-perilous combos, brown monke will never attack you, and you can safely focus on deflecting Headless.
Brown monke will really only attack you 1. Right when they spawn 2. during the terror scream (and will always use the same predictable combo) 3. shortly after you deflect stun the end of the headless ape's combo, and 4. sometimes shortly after the jump sweep.
Dealing with #1 is simple. Just dont stand near the spawn point, or deflect the 2 attacks.
For #2, learn the deflect timing for the combo, it is always the same. Right after deflecting the final big jump, you can squeeze in a thrust attack on brown monke. DONT turn back to focus Headless ape yet though. Brown monke is going to throw a hand smack at you after the combo (wait a few seconds if you have to. They always will try it, and it will catch you if you try to run away.) Deflect that, then turn/run back to Headless ape.
Additionally, you don't really NEED umbrella for the scream (and thus, dont really need spirit emblems for the fight). Brown monke waits a few moments after the scream before they run at you to start the combo, meaning you have all the time you need to run away like you normally do from the scream, provided you are appropriately reacting to the animation of Headless ape pulling the head up before he screams.
For #3, brown monke will always do a leap attack at you after you stun the Headless ape with your deflect at the end of his combo. You can squeeze in 1 thrust attack onto Headless ape, but then STOP attacking, deflect or guard (its fine if it breaks your posture) the jump attack from brown monke that is about to hit you, and then roll away and reset.
For #4, just try to position yourself after jumping a sweep to be as far from brown monke as you can. Sometimes they like to attack after headless ape sweeps, sometimes not. Absolutely do still try to jump-kick headless ape though. If youre nervous, just play it safe and try to reset after the jump-kick instead of attacking Headless ape immediately.
Spam firecrackers on the brown ape, it won't keep knocking her down but it will continue to raise the posture meter. Then deathblow the brown ape and fight guardian ape the same way.
And a Firecracker + Mortal Draw is pretty much an insta kill on the brown ape.
I recently completed this challenge - to kill Headless Ape in Reflections of Strength without Kuro"s Charm + demon bell and without using yashariku and ceremonial tanto. And I confirm - this is the most difficult fight in the game.
And yes, firecracker and Mortal Draw have not so power to insta kill brown ape in Reflections of Strength. Also firecracker spam does't fill posture damage to Brown Ape. It's fixed.
