How did this game got game of the year?

The gameplay is extremely tedious.
Its like the game expects the player to assasinate every little guy one by one, to have any chance to try to fight with the boss. Then the boss kills you in two hits. Its soo triring to go back and do the slow strategic killing, and sneaking around, waiting for patrols, and then die again.
The only positive about this game are the graphics and the atmosphere...but the gameplay ughhh

true, there is little exploration and it feels like a boss rush game. running past the "normal" enemies is a often used strategy to get fast to the boss that killed you. same thing in souls games.

but it's still a very good game. you can't over-level an area or just use youtube videos to know how to clear a level. you have to master the game mechanics. that is why it's so valuable.

on a side note: seeing trannypunk 2077 being a contender for a best in something category 2021 tells you everything you need to know about "awards".

BTW, the common enemies shall be as easy as shelling peas after some time, plus there's stealth available. Yeah, many bosses in this game are a real pain in the ass, but if it is too hard, for example, i go and pump some iron somewhere else until i feel ima real ninja and ready to kick those asses, so i get back and try again, usually 2 to 5 tries are enough. That is exactly how i did if i used to get jammed in DS and BB. Do not make yourself stuck at one dumbass, try to mix up your experience and game will feel better.

It's definitely not perfect. Iffy cameras are already a big issue in third-person hack-and-slash games, but in Sekiro they're made worse by the fact that it only takes you a few hits to die.
