As IwanttohavtheDamBurger pointed out, until you have mastered the skill of perfect parrying/deflection, you will need any tool that is there to progress. Think about it. If using it constitutes cheating or gaining the upper hand, why the developers design and put it in the game. And why the Dev devised the system that you can only use 10 during a fight when you can hold hundreds in your inventory... well, technically speaking (you don't actually carry hundreds of firecracker but hundreds of spirit enblems).
You may have watched some videos showing player(s) not using any tool but just the sword and skill to kill bosses. They can deflect perfectly every single time so they don't need any tools. They only use tool(s) and skills when time is an issue, like going for world record or just showing off. As a conclusion, as IwanttohavtheDamBurger has said that it is a challenge when not using any tool and skill.
If you're a firecracker abuser, more power to you. But I personally like to mix'n match prosthetics since it's more fun.
