Why are people annoyed that this won GOTY?

It doesn't have to. Not all games are meant for everyone nor should any game be inclined to try and appeal to everyone.

This is the answer because some people can NOT play this game, and when a game like this wins GOTY , everyone is goign to try to copy the gameplay.

So it adversely affects our gaming experience.

Because Sekiro is the weakest game FromSoft has released in the past decade (I'm not counting Deracine because it's a completely different game). It's Dark Souls simplified to one weapon and one level. Bosses don't even chain attacks, they just spam same 3-4 combos for 3 minutes in each phase.

I only accept this GOTY because it's what Bloodborne would've got, had Witcher 3 not been released that year. FromSoft deserved this award, just not for this game.

I strongly dislike FPS games because I simply cannot play them, they give me a headache after just a few minutes. Yet a good majority of the gaming industry is made up of FPS games. Does that adversely affect my "gaming experience" in any way? No. Because I can always choose not to play them and go for games that I can play and enjoy.

Yes but my favorite Genres are Strategy Rpg, RPG, and Action RPG. See the problem, now this one is a bit more action than Action RPG, but it does creep into my genre of gaming.

When Jedi Fallen order is copying dark souls, there is a problem! Okay its not nearly as bad as dark souls, but still.

Games should be inaccessible. Then when you do what it takes to access them, you actually feel something.

If you can't access them, that in itself is good. Because there is a tier out of reach that you can strive for.

If you were like me and read the writings of asians like Lao Tse, etc., You would understand.

Not every game is the same, even if they fall into the same genre or sub genre. I said I dislike FPS games, yet there are FPS games that I can play and really like. The most recent one I played and completed was Darkness II and I really liked that game despite my dislike for the genre as a whole.
You say that Fallen Order tries to copy Dark Souls is a problem. But like you mentioned it isn't as difficult as Sekiro or Dark Souls, in other words it isn't a 1:1 copy. In fact from what I've seen it;s games that try to not only copy a formula but add their own takes on it are the ones that end up succeeding. So even if the market becomes saturated like you claim, there will still be games that people can play and enjoy. Fallen Order even stands testament to this since I know there are people who've never played a souls games played and beaten Fallen Order. I've even seen some deciding to try out Sekiro because they like Fallen Order so much.

Death Stranding could not have won based on how divisive that game turned out being. Would have sparked major controversy, and soiled the entire brand of the Game Awards. Resident Evil 2 would have caused issues within the industry itself, being a remake in 2019.

Despite RE2 being an excellent remake, would end up being an insult to not only AA studios, but more so to AAA, regardless of what our opinions are on the industry.

Sekiro awarded GOTY is more of a statement that niche games have every right to be nominated, praised, and celebrated. Niche in terms of "Holy hell, this game is pretty hard. Wow, I sure can't go into this completely braindead" (Quue that one individual who completes a speedrun using the DanceDanceRevolution pad)

No, Bloodborne is the best game FromSoft has ever made, beats Sekiro in every way imaginable.

It will absolutely be the best FROM game come PS5 when we're able to play the game without the annoying frame-pacing issues and frame-rate drops during key moments of gameplay.

Assuming the game will even benefit from PS5 and run 60fps / 16ms since they never released a Pro patch. Regardless on whether I personally think that Bloodborne is the best FROM game since Demon's Souls - The game runs like ♥♥♥♥.

Cuz they're casuls :D Either they're obsessed with conspiracy theories. Miyazaki deserved GOTY after all this crap. I'm glad he now has it :D But being serious, there's a certain type of gamers, despising everything for any idiotic reason:
"X is broken (in their malfunctioning head), so Y is sh-it, even though I didn't play it. You know all games are sh-it today. They were better Z years ago (though I'm a bum with no money to buy better PC)"
It's a common situation in my country, for example. These people are also convinced that everyone, telling that game X is good, are corrupt. So, the best option is to mock them or just ignore. They don't deserve wasting your nerves.

Also please keep in mind that while Sekiro will be great for some people, and not everyone's cup of tea. The video games award is like any game of the year award, subjective lists. Just be thankful we have these great games to enjoy. ^^
