Sekiro or Dark souls for a beginner
I have never played a soulsborne game. Ive watched some videos of both Sekiro and DS3 and i think Sekiro looks more fun. The only game ive played that would be close to these types of games would be SW Jedi Fallen Order. So which one schould i go for?

Typically people learn how to ride a bike with the assistance of a parental figure.

Yeah but summoning is like being taught to ride a bike by watching someone else do it.

Dark Souls are more fun. There is way more variety in those games than Sekiro.

Dark Souls Remastered or Dark Souls 3 -- skip out on DS2. Sekiro is a good game and more difficult than any of the Souls games, but DS1 and DS3 are much better, in my opinion.

If Sekiro looks fun to you then that's probably the answer.
One of the core differences between Sekiro and Souls is the fact that in Sekiro death means losing sometimes permanently both your currency and exp so with that in mind if you are careful and remember to always spend your money and skill points before going into the unknown you're probably gonna have a good time.

dark souls 1-3 and sekiro are all great and are must plays imo. you really can't go wrong with either here. if you're into customization, different weapons/armors, and builds i would go dark souls. if you enjoy souls you'll want to play all of them, including sekiro, eventually.

J:FO follows sekiro's gameplay model. But sekiro is much much harder. I think DS is the better choice because it is easier. Not intrinsically easier, but you at least can summon help and/or overlevel to make bosses easier. There is no leveling in sekiro. Raw ability is the only way to beat the game.

I like sekiro more than DS. But that's not the same as saying that it should be played first

Dark Souls.
Sekiro is more difficult due to the lack of stat leveling and phantoms.

I was a big hater on the series however, due to all the dull videogames out there, I've decided to give em a try and started with Sekiro. I didn't enjoy it that much so I've bought Dark Souls 3 which conquered my heart lol. Ended up playing DS3 like 150 hours more than Sekiro. Even to this day I try to like Sekiro as it's still installed and as I like Miyazaki's senpai life story but it never changes.
I mean, if I wouldn't want to feel bad about recommending something you might not enjoy that much, I would say DS3. If you can afford it, go for all the souls-like series :)
May the flame guide thee :bonfire2: :praisesun:

sekiro is more a quick time event game, and for that it can be harder than dark souls.

start with dark souls 2. 1 and 3 are more connected, playing 2 first can introduce you to the series and you won't be disappointed jumping from ds2 to ds1 as most people think 2 is the worst one. still very fun.

I've played Demon Souls, DS1 (first FromSoft game I played), DS3, Sekiro, and unfortunately never played Bloodbourne. I don't think DS2 even plays like a souls game. It may be "souls-like" but it's too drifty and doesn't have the same feel as every other entry, imo. I think it's straight doodoo butter. Don't start with DS2 SKIP DS2.

It could ease them in to a more difficult genre of game rather than stomping them in to oblivion repeatedly. People learn different ways, and sometimes positive reinforcement (severely lacking in fromsoftware games) can go a long way to determine if someone will stick to something and improve.
That would go against the FromSoftware approach. Ever since Demon's Souls it's just been "Here's the basic mechanics, now go #$%@ off." FromSoftware games encourage you to actually use your head, figure things out for yourself. You died to a boss? Figure out their moves, and figure out how you can avoid and counter them. There is absolutely zero hand-holding or spoon-feeding, and that's what makes their games special. Getting stomped on is just a part of learning. It's like when you learn to ride a bike you might fall over at first, but eventually you'll figure it out. If someone isn't into that kind of game, they shouldn't play it.

TL;DR: scrubs need to git gud or drop the game

How does summoning go against FromSoftware's approach if they're the ones that put that ability into the game? FromSoftware give you all the tools to make their games as easy or as hard as you want. Dying a lot? Grind for a handful of hours and pump the levels on your stats. Can't beat a boss? Bring in multiple companions to do your dirty work for you. That's not even mentioning the unlimited ways the games allow you to cheese tough enemies.

I get going in with the approach of not levelling the health stat and soloing all the bosses but stating that the inverse strategy goes against FromSoftwares approach is a bit inauthentic and not conducive to onboarding new players.

I never said that summoning was against the FromSoft approach. I said that easing people into the game was against their approach. Please read my comment before ranting at me next time.
