Why no map?
There should be a tiny map in the corner so you don't hop around in circles. No map is very time consuming. But most steam users never get lost and figure everything out one time with the controller behind their back! Upside down. A map is standard for games.

when you are at a buddha sculpture you can press Y on your Controller and there is a map

Yeah , but this "standard" is new thing really.
And there is no need to have a map in any souls game - its not an open world game.

The hopping around mountains level is insane. Jumping off ciffs to find items. There are many areas hard to find while hopping in circles. You got to be a Twitch genius to speed run finding items with no boss damage.

not gonna lie this has 'little' kid written all over these posts

just walk around and you will find everything in the game, there is nothing hidden to a high degree of secrecy and I guarantee you can 100% this game without a guide

the game is well enough designed to not need a map in my opinion, just explore and the game will show you the way

they want you to figure it out on your own and memorize the map, just like how you figure out the enemies patterns and you memorize it.

A map is a crutch.

Just like a Tom-Tom.

No need for a map.

With the detail and care put into the world, there's enough to go by. Before too long, you know where's what. A map would be limiting, pulling away your eyes from the beauty (and action) in front of them.

I don't see how a map would help in this game. Most maps have "fog of war" so you wouldn't know which way to go anyway.
Sekiro's areas (other than Ashina Castle) are very linear with usually only 1 or 2 ways to go, anyway. Usually, if you fee "lost" looking around will find a path, which are clearly identifiable by the grapple points and white-streaked ledges.

Souls games have never had maps, and I'm glad honestly. Replaying the game without maps has taught me the world layout in a unique way. Of course the first playthrough is hardest (had to have a friend tell me where to go) but after that it usually isn't any trouble to figure out where things are.

I played these games without any help, blind and solo and without checking guides or playthroughs, I got lost a lot of where to go and what to do, including at Sekiro :winter2019joyfultearsyul:

(I still dont see a need for a map, I enjoy exploring and trying to find the way myself).

Warcraft and Age of Empires have tiny maps. If you don't need a map, turn the option off.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas has a tiny map.
