Genichiro, Way of Tomoe more or less functions as the first phase immediately preceding Isshin, so the whole fight from start to end has four phases.

here is a video where i killed him some days ago.
i did screw up some timings though

1st phase is skipped since Its a reflection fight.
But its easy anyways and same as Genichiro fight

2nd phase is pretty easy when you learn to deflect and dodge

3rd phase : thats where it gets difficult.
If you do it enough you will eventually get into a rythm
My tipp would be to try and force his thrust attacks that you can mikiri counter and besides that play save

4th phase he will kill himself with lighting ;)
just jump and deflect then r1 the lighting back into him
besides that play save

1st Isshin phase you can be a lot more aggressive than you were being there. After he counters with his swing from his bottom right you can immediately counter with your own attack, you don't need to wait for him to do two more swings after. And when he does his Ichimonji, you don't need to dodge out of the way. All you have to do is sidestep it and hit him in the back.

For Isshin's phase 2/3: don't try blocking the gun shots; just sprint to the side instead (if you're not too close to him). Don't just randomly stop attacking. Doing so gives him more freedom to choose from his moveset, making him less predictable. Keep attacking if he blocks one of your attacks until he deflects, then deflect the counter if it's with his sword and resume the attack. However, if he does not block, pay close attention to him. If he doesn't stagger, there's an attack coming and you need to stop attacking to defend against it. For the attack where he charges up then does a 360 degree sweeping slash, you don't have to time a deflection. You can simply jump over it. In phase 3, you were panic-backpedaling a bit. I know that's just inexperience, but still something to try to avoid.

you can get into an posture skermish pretty easily in his 2nd stage, with a gokan sugar it's over pretty fast, you want to attack then wait for him to attack then block, then attack, repeat. he will slowly walk to the right when in this cycle. sometime he will break it but it's pretty easy to bait him into it.

haha 166 is bare. when i revisit ill get last 2 achievements. i got burned out. did charmless/demonbell run on NG+. Looks like you gotta go back to DS1 too.....2 hours 💩

First level you have to keep pushing him with slash and deflecting.. then use mortal sword to break his posture. Play offensive and parry his stuff to break his posture.

His second level is basically same with his third level. You have to play more defensively but third you need to jump the moment he shoots lightning to absorb it and reflect it back to him to break his posture.
