The dragonrot mechanic shouldn't have been added to this game
Similar to your healthbar decreasing the more you die in DS2, punishing a player for dying beyond stealing assets and resetting them in any soulslike game is just a terrible idea. I mean locking off content because I am struggling on a single bossfight is a step past "punishing" its just disingenuous. Is there a mod to remove this? I want to struggle on a bossfight to my heart's content without having to worry about higher ramifications that were hartdly explained to me

Dragonrot doesn't lock off content, it just decreases your chance not to loose XP and money on death.

Doesn't it give it to npcs locking off quests? Isn't that the whole in lore point of dragonrot?

It can be cured with a item called "Dragon's blood droplet", which are pretty easy to come by and are also sold by the Memorial Mob for relatively cheap considering what they do.

No, it just makes them cough and lowers chance for unseen aid.

It's a minor inconvenience at best and easy to heal. You're exaggerating, glhf.

Well you don't need unseen aid. As for npc, you just cure them, once you wanna progress their quest, I only needed this once so far, other than that I was running around with sick npcs.

There are like 14 of the items that cure it. Wait until you are done pushing through new territory/retrying bosses over and over, then use one to clear everything at once. Should barely be an issue at all.

Normally I don't jump in but the very first sentence of the thing you linked proves the OP's point not yours. It locks out NPC side quests until healed.

To note, I agree, the dragon drops are relatively common so just cure it, but it does do a bit more than just lowering the chance for unseen aid and making npcs cough.

Dragonrot is not a major inconvenience, but it wasn't really a necessary mechanic imo . My theory is that the devs probably wanted to do something else with the mechanic originally but couldn't fully implement it but thought that it would be a shame to throw it out entirely so they gave us this version.
One droplet is enough to clear all the rot essences so I recommend to use them only when you actually need to talk to a specific infected npc. Would have been nicer though if it was farmable and not in limited quantity but there should be enough to last through your playthrough unless you are using them very carelessly.
As for the unseen aid.... don't rely on it. It has at best 30% chance of occuring and it will probably proc when you don't need it while not occuring when you do need it.
If you are before a difficult fight, make sure to spend your money either on goods or buy purses from merchants (you lose 10% of the money that way but it saves you from risking losing half of it).
Similary with xp, if you are close to the next skill point and are unsure about an upcoming fight, just farm until you trigger the next point.

Your theory is correct. It used to kill NPCs permanently but they scrapped that.

This isn`t true. Dragonrot can prevent you from completing side quests.

Don`t try to answer a question if you don`t know the answer.

It didn't make it into release. Maybe just a rumour, but makes a lot of sense.
