Isshin not appearing in tower, game breaking bug
Got the letter, did the rat quest. Isshin is still in his original spot near Ashina Castle gate, exhausted all dialogue with him, the old lady, Kuro and Emma. Well I think my game is broke.

Also how the hell was I meant to figure out I need to do this to beat the game without looking up a guide? I mean I beat all 3 Dark Souls and at least in those games they didn't obscure the main quest line, it was pretty intuitive what you were meant to do to progress. This is pretty much the best Soulsborne game in terms of combat but I'm kind of salty now my game is broken.

have you killed genichiro
Vomit Apr 23, 2020 @ 7:00am
Yes I have. Do I have to obey the Iron Code to get him to appear? I don't want to lock my self out of extra areas so I don't really want to obey.

I was pretty salty about how it is nigh impossible to get through the game without trouble unless using a guide.

And if he talked with Kuro then he definietly did kill Genichiro. TBH I've no clue what you could do. I had a simillar issue with another NPC who just refused to move even tho I did supposedly meet his requirements. I also suggest you check for him at the "Great Serpent Shrine" Idol, I've never seen him there but a character said Isshin fought some shinobi there, maybe it's worth checking out.

ok so youve killed genichiro and monk and now owl has appeared. you have completed the rat quest and now isshin is wearing his tengu clothes next to the gyoubo arena?
Crowley42 Apr 23, 2020 @ 7:05am
Ah yeah, Isshin is not in his regular room while the Castle is under siege, you'll just have to kill Owl then.

I have not killed the Corrupted Monk yet. Game has a very confusing set of endings and I'm not sure which one I even want and I'm not keen on obeying the code and ending the game early, I'd rather see all the bosses. So I guess my plan is kill Corrupted Monk and Guardian Ape then check back for Isshin which is apparently required to get to Folding Monkeys.

he's not?? i remember so well that i went to talk to him before fighting owl, but it may have been before the fight with genichiro but then again im 100% sure isshin doesnt appear in the tower before genichiro is dead. also i think i heard isshin and emma talk about the second mortal blade right before the owl fight

isshin is not required to get to folding monkeys. walk over the bridge and into the forest and youll appear in that place with tons of buddhists

Nope, the bell won't appear on the table until I speak to Isshin, apparently. I've had to spoil a lot of the game to be able to progress sigh... Bad design IMO. Multiple endings is cool but this is just beyond convoluted.

Honestly I am pretty confused myself now, I'm on my first playthrough so my word doesnt have much experience behind it, but I can confirm that when I cleared out the Castle Isshin wasn't in his room. I did talk about him a lot beforehand though, so maybe he moved because I already had all the relevant information?

He's still in his original spot with the mask on after you beat Gyobu, he only says one line of dialogue and that's it. I have found the letter also and I completed the rat quest very early on in the game.

So, from what you say, I guess you talked to Kuro and got the choice (from him) to obey the code or help him. At this point you do not really have a choice which should have been quite obvious when you chose to help Kuro and Sekiro just said "I can't" and you got the same choice again.

Yes, you need to finish this dialogue before Kuro tells you to go find Isshin. Take the hints from the game before you go and look up a guide if you don't want to spoil yourself. Choose the only option you CAN choose or be stuck making no choice.
If you are at this point, then you lied when you said you exhausted all dialogue with Kuro. You ended the dialogue rather than choose the only option you had.

what bell?? im confused about what you mean. i dont think you need a bell to go to senpou temple
Crowley42 Apr 23, 2020 @ 7:18am
Okay, according to the wiki the only trigger for Owl to invade the castle is for you to collect the items from the Ape and the Monk, you do not need your Mortal Blade at this point, so just go kill Owl and you'll be able to talk to Kuro which will then trigger Isshin's place-change.

You cannot go to the Screen Monkeys fight unless you
1) Killed Genichiro
2) Spoke with Isshin about the Mortal Blade

Unless you do this, the bell wont appear on the table and the Temple will be a dead end, like it was for me.
