When did things go wrong in Mibu Village ?
Hello !

I suppose by waiting a bit before buying, I missed the lore hunt on the forums. I'm trying to catch up now and i'm curious about the current lore if you have any infos !

Mibu village is a bit of a mess to me, timeline wise :

In Hirata estate, the first encounter is a dying Tengu. He tells you that the events of this "memory" take place 3 years ago. Also, he adds that, this is the year of the Mibu village wedding procession.

So 3 years ago ; it seems Mibu was still fine, reachable by most and the processions still ongoing.

However, when you look at the Buddist temple lost in the mist (Mist Noble's house), it seems left to root for way more than 3 years (No walls, no roof, etc when the illusion is broken).

Yet, weirdly, you can still find one monk alive in the (pretty dangerous) forest nearby, as if he was kicked out of there pretty recently.

So, in the end :

Did the Mist Noble arrive a long time ago ? Sent by the fountainhead, long enough for him to be the reason of Mibu village being called the "Village in the Mist".
If so, is he here to watch over the wedding proccessions, or maybe even the precious baits ?
(And then the monk is a damn skilled survivor)

OR

Did he arrive recenlty (less than 3 years) as fountainhead palace is somewhat dying, to steal the villagers vitality.
He is then the reason of the mess going on the village ? Messing with the priest of the village, leading them to drink the water to make them undying and submissive ?
(But then, why is the temple so old)

If you have any idea or wish to debate, it would be really cool !

I'd lean towards the 2nd. Also the house could have been burned down.
I doubt it's been rotting away.

True that, the fire could be an good option, didn't think about this. Furthermore, in the same way, the books are burning in front of the old monk in the woods.

But if the Noble arrived recently ; why the place is supposed to be "Dangerous" ; the samurai looking for O'rin says that his master warned him about how dangerous the Mibu area is long ago.

And it's weird that Mibu would have been called "Village in the Mist" before the Noble even arrived to create the fog ; as we see when he is killed, there is no mist left at all.

The dying Nightjar in Hirata says it's the year of the Dragonspring procession.

If the dragonspring pilgrimage is the same thing as Mibu's wedding ritual (which I'm not sure of) then the Mist Noble wouldn't hamper the procession, it's how his people get their sustenance after all.

That said I think Mibu has been isolated for a long time and almost forgotten tho, Sekiro has to jump down a hole to get there and I don't think that's feasible for non-ninjas... The dragonspring pilgrimage is something else from the bridal procession, the first idol in the Hirata estate is the Dragonspring Idol so I guess the procession is headed somewhere near Hirata. The place is full of lakes, rivers, springs and carps after all.

The Mist Noble could come from the fountainhead but could also come from Mibu, we see the current priest transform into a noble so we know it's possible. He has been in the forest for a long time keeping the mist up and "fool" (as the dying monk states) Mibu villagers keeping them disconnected from the influence of Buddha and the outside world.
