Fulminated Mercury way too RARE
I hate it when I have to farm for rare upgrade materials. If I wanted to do this I could just play Monster Hunter.

Where's the option to purchase this stuff?

Just pop Mibu of possession and get 2 passives from Senpo style.
Yeah. Even with both upgrades it's absurd. Balloons seem to have no effect. Getting 5 required me to farm ashina outskirts stairway 31 times. I got I've every six runs killing the 5 enemy's there. One every 35 kills. That's ridiculous and unnecessary.

If it makes you feel any better none of the final upgrades feel any better than the previous tier. Sabimaru does better but poison is so slow that frankly you're always better off just killing the enemy and almost all bosses and mini bosses seem immune.

I love the game but the entire combat arts and tools progression is pointless. They are barely useful at all. You have to force yourself to use them because your sword is always better. Always.
I got 5 just farming the red gunners in outskirts at the end of the game in like 10 minutes. It's not bad
You don't need much of it to upgrade your prosthetic tools - only for some end-game ones, so of course it's going to be rare. I spent a few minutes farming it at best and was able to buy practically every weapon in the game that required it, only missing maybe less than 5 fulminated mercury needed to get the remaining prosthetic tools on NG+ right now.

Would suggest saving the 2nd passive from senpou as there are a lot good skills to get and they're getting pretty expensive pretty fast. Ringing the bell is enough for all mats except lapis (which are soooo rare you should just skip the last 2 upgrades (for axe+flamer i suggest) for ng+).
I farmed mercury in ashina depths - poison pool once the 3 cannon guys spawn there (not the gunner). Go up, backstab one guy, grapple over to the other guy one the platform and backstab him, go to the island and backstab the lastone. grapple back to idol. quite fast. You can also use the golden fans (and the tanto dagger beforehand to save emblems) to get even more loot.
For everything else, wait till you are the divine palace area - you quickly get lots of adamant and grave wax there (dont even need to farm it - they just drop like crazy).
No need to farm a lots of mercury. You still find some in the palace area and as you probably will save 2 upgrades due to lack of lapis lazuli to ng+ so you'll find enough mercury for them beforehand anyway.

Ashina Castle stairs end game, pop a mibu balloon, use the divine adbduction prosthetic with the gold upgrade on it(golden fan),rinse, repeat. got like 15 in 5 minutes
Best farming spot is Poison Pools in Ashina depths, after you kill the first Headless Ape. There are three heavy gunners there and you literally zip in circle counter-clockwise starting from the one above the Idol. Balloons seem to help on occasion, except you get swamped with pellets.

Eh you accumulate rare materials over NG+ and above. Just make sure to memorize where the placed loot items are that hold the FM when you pass by areas. Of course when push comes to shove you'll just have to farm enemies that drop it.

They're the most uncommon farmable material, for sure - not counting Lapis Lazuli which is just lol good luck tier of farming rarity, though.

You can farm them early on at Gunfort and Ashina Depths, though, from the "shotgun" big dudes. Later in the game all the Ministry gunners have a good chance of dropping it, but that's usually way after you need it.

It's not anymore rarer than Grave Wax - except for the fact the enemy that drops Grave Wax has a much smaller drop table compared to the enemies that can drop Fulminated Mercury, so it's annoying to farm it.

Doesn't take long though. Totally capable of farming it before fighting any major bosses, too.
Really? I got all mine really fast. Didn't have the possession thing active, or the passives from the tree.

Only thing i had was the demon bell, and running to the middle of the enemies at the stairs at Ashina Castle and using the Golden vortex and then running back to idol, rinse and repeat.

Only problem is, you need 2 fulminated mercury to upgrade to golden vortex i think, but you can farm those from the gun guys near the old grave idol, where the bridge is, but for me anyway, didn't take long.
