Shinobi hunter.....impossible?

I can't beat this thing with any amount of attempts (lost track, but it's over 30), or git gud, or whatever. It's literally impossible for me to win this, so is there a way to cheese it?

do you by chance have the skill Mikiri Counter? it makes the fight alot easier

I can't land the mikiri counter.

You can stealth attack to get halfway there instantly. The Mikiri Counter will also ruin him pretty quickly.

Gave up even trying to land that. I dunno what the timing is, but it's too clutch for my reflexes, apparently.

do not press any directional input while using the mikiri counter, the window is pretty big

I've pressed B as the spear poke was ready to land, and the mikiri counter never, ever worked.

he's designed to be a hard tutorial on Mikiri Counter. That and getting in a stealth hit makes him a cakewalk.
