Guardian Ape mortal blade?

The second phase of the Guardian Ape, he attacks with his head in hand (seems to be immortal), Is there a way to kill the first health bar with the mortal blade and end it there and then?

No, parry its sword attacks and keep a good distances from it so you are prepared to run if it does the roar.

You want to parry the big vertical slash as it'll knock it down for free hits.

Honestly I cheesed his second form by sprinting around, waiting for his 4 hit combo, running in and taking 2-3 hits. Didn't get hit once in his second form.

Same, killed his second form first try after struggling with the first one.
Btw, you can also hit him once after he falls on the floor and swipes.

Just replayed the game for the second time, I just discovered that you can actually kill the Ape WITHOUT the mortal blade, Sekiro will just do the same but with his normal one if you haven't gotten it yet xD

Oh, and the Ape continues to twitch on the ground and have spasms caused by the worm if you do that, like it's still alive, but kind of passed out since it can't die :D

You can come back after getting mortal blade and finish him off for good.

While mortal draw is very effective againt the ape when used right, you cannot fully kill the ape on the first fight, otherwise you couldn't get to the second fight at all which would make you lose the opportunity to gain another boss memory.
Anyway the second phase is easy, just parry the big downward attack and then use the spear to pull the worm out of it for big damage.

Old Thread, anyway, You can also Block the Roar with the Loaded Umbrella. That-a-way you don't have to run away and run back.

It uses spirit emblems though which could be used to pull his centipede out
