Perilous Attacks All Being The Same Symbol
Why make a system of attacks that require specific reactions to them that are all under the same symbol and then make the boss at the top of ashina castle use all 3 every other attack on the third phase. I get it look at the animation but many times you cant react fast enough and in certain situations like the phase 3 of the ashina castle boss its just obnoxious. Every single other attack in a perilous attack randomly swapping between all 3 and sometimes the attack you have to deflect that insta kills you that also sometimes just doesnt work. Color the symbol, change the symbols, something, this is the only problem I have with the game. If you think leaving it as a single symbol for 3 seperate attacks is just a "git gud" system youre an idiot. If youre only response to a very valid critique of a game system is "git gud" then youre just a blind idiot. I can flawlessly parry and mirkiri stomp this boss to his third phase but its when hes using all 3 randomly on top of the insta kill attack that it really shows how badly something like color coded symbols is needed. Like hell dont even make it default, make a shinobi art that allows youre character to tell the difference.

Edit: I just killed the enemy I was speaking of, it still stands though, at the very least fromsoft should make the symbol less invasive as it blocks the animation from your view.

Sorry, but my animal reflexes can't handle it. Maybe if his weapon shined red, like in certain good action games of platinum quality, i would have been nice and simple.

I think they went that way to make it more challenging. It would be too easy to just put a big "PRESS THIS BUTTON" icon above their head when they make a certain attack. As it is right now you have to memorize the enemies attacks to be able to counter properly.

It's annoying when you're in a bad situation, but it's satisfying when it "clicks".
Jumping counters all unblockable attacks, but dodging and deflecting gives a bigger punish. It's risk vs reward.

And it is great on phases where hes consistant with the ones he does but that third phase it is random. I dont mean put the exact button, but like having it be red for thrust, yellow for sweep, and orange for grab. Like I also said previously balance it by making it a shinobi art thats like dropped from an enemy as a skill, an enemy that forces you to master these 3 reactions.

Jumping generally doesnt counter thrust attacks.

Because the kenji is for unblockable attacks (you can still parry them.) so either get the ♥♥♥♥ away, hit them to stuff the attack or parry it. Some even have a small mechanic built into the unblockable.

Zoe you're not getting the point. Things that are color coded are easier. You must watch the animation and frames and quickly react. If you made the game with your way of thinking there would be no challenge and the point of a Souls game is challenge..

i have no issue with it but i can see where you are coming from. I just take it as a this attack will HURT alot more than normal and dodge accordingly. after a while you can pick up on what kind of attack that enemy is doing and try to parry/miriki/ or just dodge as usual

Except at that point id rather the kenji symbol be out of the way so I can focus on the attack rather than a giant read symbol popping up in the way

Yeah, that boss took me around 20 tries or so to kill. It was a crazy experience, and I got really lucky on the third phase.

I'm very happy that a lot of new souls players are at least trying this game but half of you guys really need to just quit and go play something else if you can't even understand why attacks aren't color coded..

Don't derail this thread.

Look at my account I have all the games with hundreds of hours and even have the dark souls achievment for dark souls 3, it has nothing to do with making it easier you still have to react, the animations are too fast when its random. Its genuine critique to expand on this system rather than having one symbol dictate multiple reactions.

I mean seriously if you want difficulty then remove the stupid symbol to begin with because it gets in the way of even seeing the animations half the time.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
