Hint: It's in the memory.
Warning: It's bloody hard.
That right here was your mistake. Never make uninformed decisions. Especially not about buying on release day.
I don't hate it. Actually the game had me surprised with the possibilities with a few things. It's pretty nice.
And your first attack power up will be available once you've beaten the horse guy. Just don't play it like Dark Souls and you'll be fine.
Imagine a game coming out and it's advertised "a new RPG from bethesda, makers of fallout and elder scrolls". And you look at the screen and it looks like an fps rpg just like fallout and scrolls. And you love those games and know you're getting it so you ignore it to you don't get spoiled. And when it finally comes it's an on rails shooter with rpg elements.
That's what this feels like. Again, my fault for not reading about it but that's what it feels like.
Two locations I found: one in the house behind the drunkard (rotating wall) and one in the tall tower beside the horse boss arena. You can sort of double jump off a wall to catch a grappling hook inside. Climb to the top to get the bead. This is hinted at by the thief in the memory .
"no attack ups from what I am assuming is memory" - Those come from main bosses. So the only one you could have gotten so far is madame butterfly in the memory (which I still haven't done). Beating horse boss gets you the second one.
Honestly attack up doesn't do a huge amount. The game is all about the parrying to break enemy posture. Get the mikuri counter skill if you haven't already, it's basically a pre-requisite to playing the game and really should have been in the default move set.
Not attacking you or anything but if Bethesda released a new IP that wasn't Fallout or Scrolls, i would not make a huge assumption without looking into it first.
I get your point and can understand the thinking. The thing is I don't like that thinking. It locks developers into certain types of games for eternity and that's not a good thing.
That's exactly what happened with Volition Inc. They wanted to do something new, everybody expected it to be like their previous releases and the game flopped. Now we are going to get the same copy/paste of their previous games because of that.
Let people have creative freedom. We never know what masterpieces they could have up their sleeves if they are given a chance. You can really read a few descriptions without spoiling anything or watch the announcements (like the E3 announcement trailer last year - there were big hints this game would be something different).
Well, that aside. Try to give the game a fair chance and don't play it like any of the other games from FromSoft. Adapt the new mechanics and you should have less problems within the game. I can't say if you'll enjoy it more but going in with the wrong mindset doesn't help your enjoyment either.
Yeah that guy destroyed me...actually I think I got him to 25% of second bar the first try..but then decided to go back the other way (where you end up getting the key..at the spear boss - so now I have to go back to fat boy)
So true. Couldn't finish the memory because of that big guy and his army. ♥♥♥♥ them. The other way was easier for the moment. Going to revisit him once I hit another roadblock on the other route :P
