They are your resurrects you have available.

Those are your Resurrection counters. You start with one and get a second after beating Madame Butterfly. I haven't gotten a third yet, but I presume you get some more as you go on.

So, I only have one resurrect but two red dots. I was wondering what the second one was as well. The one on the right is resurrects. The one on the left seems to fill with time. I haven't pinned down exactly why though, unless I'm missing something.

The one on the left fills via kills.

You have 2 of them, but can only revive once during combat, unless you kill an enemy. This means you can only revive once during a boss.

After dying during a boss and then hitting a deathblow I had the black strikeout removed. I guess if you get enough kills to fill it beforehand then you can get a second second-chance.

Did none of you read the tooltip/info box that popped up when you got access to them or something? It amazes me that this question even exists when the game outright tells you this when you gain access to them....

Basically as you kill enemies you fill the second resurrect slot. You can then refill your slots after dying and getting up to get even more resurrects. There's items that boost it, but otherwise it's quite slow.
