RPG Elements...
I'm a bit disappointed that this is a FromSoft game without RPG elements. I thought it would be easier to forget them and just let myself enjoy the game. Nope.

It's not the first From game without RPG elements, and I'm sure it won't be the last. Although, if your only experience of their games is the Souls series then I can see why you might feel that way.

Oh wow I didn't realize how many games they developed. I had to look it up.

Huh... interesting.

Yeah, they've been going a long time. A lot of their older games weren't great, but I have a particular fondness for Chromehounds.

I tried to get a refund but played too much.
My own fault really, should have done research before buying it.
Its a pretty hollow experience in my opinion without the RPG elements & playstyle customization.
Just running around killing dudes with the only sense of progression being moving forward.

You get a lot more combat options as you progress and unlock skill trees and prosthetic tools, it’s more than just smacking them with a sword after the first couple hours. Depends on how quickly you progress I suppose

Not a huge fan of the rock paper scissors style combat system & I don't really get anything out of hard games just for being hard.
I did skim the skill tree but eh it just makes me wonna play Nioh. More my kind of thing.

Fair enough if it’s not your cup of tea, although I’m not really sure what you mean about the Rock Paper Scissors thing

I'm refearing to how you deal with attacks.
Sweep = jump, Thrust = parry. Grab = gtfo. Pretty much a case of waiting for one of those to happen & reacting quick enough.

For example early on there are some annoying dudes with wooden shields.
In Dark Souls you'd be able to kick them out of it, effectively run behind them & attack, attack with magic, fire an arrow, or of course parry.
In Sekiro you don't really have much of an option, at least early on, but stand there & wait for them to attack you to parry.

You can either circle the guys with the shield or use an axe to break them in one shot.

Ah, I get what you mean. In comparison to dark souls though, dark souls solution to everything was just “roll”.

And you can find the axe for shieldbreaking before you fight the first shield enemies

It has rpg elements. There is still this feeling of building your own character and progressing like the past games.....maybe not as much but it is there

Ah I completely missed that. Thanks for the tip. Well since my refund was denied I might as well try & find that thing & give it another go at some point.

No more so than any other game these days. Horizon, Far Cry, Red Dead 2 I think had them also. Just part of modern game design. I'm after a little more meat than that.
Guess I should just be thankful it doesn't have micro transactions lol.

I wouldn’t say that not having levels and stats makes it lazy, they’ve clearly put a lot of work into the combat system and the skill trees and stuff
