Is there any way to play as a female?

Like character model swapping in Ni-Oh? It'd give me a little more incentive to buy it.

Character skins and model swaps don't need to have an impact on the story at all. They don't in Ni-oh.

You could also play as Mary Jane in Spiderman on the PS2 using a cheat code.

No you are being childish. Here is a game, a remarkable game telling a story with a male protagonist and you aren't going to get it unless you can have a pair of breasts. You are letting boobs determine your ability to enjoy a great game. Seriously you are no better than people that can't play Nier Automata without a nude mod.

Although there were female Shinobi(Kunoichi), it was largely a male-dominated profession, so it makes sense that the protagonist of a ninja game is a dude.

If you do want to stare at women pretending to be ninjas while you game though, might I direct you towards the Senran Kagura games here on steam? There's a bunch of female ninja with big ole floppy bewbs wearing explosive clothing.

Ya I am playing as Emma. Well I tried it out anyway, works well. Too bad you still have a dude's voice for everything lol.

Back in my day, games didn't have stories. At best you had a screen at the start with some vague text telling you the setting.

And yet, I still enjoyed them. Weird!
