I wanted to use my PS4 controller with this game as well, had to do a quick google search and wade through all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guides that tell you to install all kinds of weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ software to get the PS4 controller to work even though it has native windows drivers for years now.
And if you'd read my comment you would've read that you can disable big picture after you've set up the controller. And I wouldn't complain about big picture when previous PS3 controller software was literal Chinese malware that contained ads
I got it up and running within 5 minutes, works for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm actually having this exact problem with my 360 controller. The movement is extremely jittery and I can't move forward reliably, when I can move forward the character only walks and if I change direction in the slightest he will stop.
