Treasure carp scales bugged?

killed all except one. previous once where pretty straight forward - swim dash into them and attack. but this last one ... i cant hit it. whats your experience with it? its kinda frustrating resetting every time i didnt get it

Also stuck on the one near the barrel man/waterfall. Only surfaces when you get close and I can't hit it. Shurikens do little damage and it swims away, can't connect with sword.

Got it as soon as I posted lol. I waited on a rock and jumped right on top of it, then just do the hold R1 attack to close the distance and hope for some luck.

Swim from behind as close as possible and try a heavy attack (charged standard attack).
Mine stopped appearing though :(

I believe they're finite. 15 in the whole game, just enough to buy everything from the dude.
Different areas too, so the first has 4 swimming and one that you can pick up like an item under the bridge.

There's more than 15 and you can learn to dive underwater later which trivializes the carp catching.

There are reeds/grass stalks growing in the water that conceal you, I waiting in them for the fish to pass near by and then did the charge attack and killed it.
