CONTROLLER SUPPORT MEGATHREAD
This thread is Controller Support General.

If you have problems with running Sekiro with a controller, please leave a message here. If you have a fix for a listed problem, please share it so that we can move through the list of problems quickly.

EDIT: IF YOU ARE GOING TO POST THAT YOU FOUND A SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM, PLEASE LIST WHAT CONTROLLER YOU ARE USING, AND WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM YOU ARE ON.

All controllers:
  • MAKE SURE STEAM IS CONFIGURED TO RECOGNIZE YOUR CONTROLLER FOR WHAT IT IS. Theoretically, you should even be able to play this with Switch Joycons. Controller configuration CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED by running Steam in Big Picture Mode, or by pressing your controllers "Logo Button" while the game is running. In Big Picture Mode, the options should be easy to find from the top right of the screen, in game via the Logo Button, it should be second from the top on the list of options on the left.

  • If steam still doesn't recognize your controller, then try setting it as a generic gamepad in controller configuration.

I've solved the issue for myself, at least. Open start menu and type "controller", select "Set up USB game controllers". Look at the list and unplug everything listed, except the controller you want to use. If you still have a device called "vJoy", you'll need to uninstall the vJoy program (which is unfortunate, as I use it for my HOTAS in Elite: Dangerous, but I can make do). This is such an insane oversight on the devs' part. My controller works just fine in every other game (including Souls 1-3) with vJoy installed and all my controllers and HOTAS plugged in, but not Sekiro. This was also an issue in other Bandai Namco games like Tales of Berseria, you can find similar issues in its discussions.

Today I've got an idea to delete integrated in windows xbox app, and IT FINALLY WORKS.

Click Start, and then type Windows PowerShell on the search box.
Right-click, and then select Run as administrator.
Type the following command to uninstall Xbox app: Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp*| Remove-AppxPackage.
    Hit Enter.

Hope it works for you aswell

I had a similar issue with the horipad mini4 VID_0F0D&PID_00EE running windows 10.

I noticed it was showing up twice in some menus in different applications and this post clued me in on checking out dxdiag. Sure enough, it was listed there twice as well.

In the control panel, by disabling the entry "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" in the HORIPAD mini4 Properties, the controller is now detected only once and is fully functional.

I was so annoyed by this problem I created an image with screenshots of the steps to take for anyone else with this issue at https://imgur.com/OP5H7tk

I hope this will be of help to someone else. It really should be listed on the publishers official support page.

    PS4 problems:
  • If you are having problems with your PS4 controller picking up movement as mouse movement, then go into your controller configuration, and select the sixaxis symbol in the middle of your controller. It will be set to "mouse" set it to "none" to deactivate sixaxis mouse control.

  • If you can't control your camera with your right joystick, then go into controller configuration, and select the right joystick. Set it to "joystick mouse". This should emulate a normal controller joystick camera until a patch is available. If you need to invert your camera, then select "mouse control" options under "Input Device Options" in the options menu.

  • If your controller isn't being recognized, then try unplugging your mouse. Certain mice are recognized as game controllers. Open the game without the mouse, but with the controller activated. The game should recognize the controller as the primary input device. You may even be able to plug your mouse back in to use it on your desktop while alt-tabbed.

This. Steam supports all current gen system controllers, and something like two last gen controllers. 90% of my problems running controllers on Steam disappeared when I uninstalled DSFix and DS4Win. Don't use these. They mess with how Steam sees your controller. Steam needs to see your controllers natural state, or it can't interface with it correctly.

    XBox problems:
  • If your controller isn't being recognized, try enabling "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" in "General Controller Settings" (Steam -> Settings -> Controller) [thanks to Max for this fix]

Then I opened steam in big picture mode, went to controller settings, unplugged controller and plugged back in, selected xbox support at the top with the check marks and now it works.

I don't know if it was one of these thingsor a combination but no other tips helped me and now its working as intended.

On a more personal note, I'm using a PS4 controller without DSfix, or any other third party software. You don't need it if you have Bluetooth enabled, and your windows drivers are up to date. That being said, one problem I have on Windows 10 is that my driver for my Bluetooth antenna is busted, so I have to uninstall it, and search for new devices before it will work fine. Try that if you're on Windows 10, and can't even get the controller to connect. As for XBox controllers, I don't have one, so we'll have to wait on people with them to work through it. Be patient. This is new territory for some of the developers, and any PC Souls fan knows that From doesn't have too much practice with controllers on PC.

[UPDATE] Thanks for all the help everyone! I'm keeping this thread alive for posterity, so if you're new here and figure something out, feel free to share!

I've been a pc gamer ever since i started gaming. To me, nothing beats pc gaming... but do you know what the coolest thing about pc gaming is (other than the superior hardware power and customisation, of course..) its that we have a MASSIVE number of peripherals to choose from, we have so many options to pick the BEST interface to suit the game... sometimes thats mouse and keyboard, and sometimes thats a good ol fashioned controller. For games like this? a controller is the best choice.

its not shunning certain peripherals that makes pc gaming superior to console.. its that we have choices they dont that makes us better people in every single way to those filthy peasants (:D)

controller all the way for games like this.

Using Xbox Elite controller. Nothing works. Controller works fine with other games. Tried messing around with Steam's controller settings, no luck. Keyboard works fine.

PS4 controller fix (what finally worked for me):

With Steam's controller configuration screen open:
Unplug the PS4 controller and plug it back in again.
It then showed up and was properly identified (and wasn't until then).
Then just enable Playstation Configuration Support in the Steam settings and disable everything else.
It's working fine now (with no need for third party software, e.g. DS4Windows, etc.).

i just wish there was a way to get PS4 button prompts. :(

This is a weird one, but when I go into the "inventory screen" or press start. When I move the right thumb stick, the mouse cursor shows and moves along with the thumb stick movement. It's super annoying.

I should have prefaced that I am using an wired Xbox One Elite controller.

XBOX 360 Afterglow controller is not responding at all. Way to launch a game. Well done. 60 bucks screaming for a refund. You have ONE week to fix this!

I inverted Y axis for camera on an XBONE controller but it doesn't invert the controls. Anyone have a fix for this?
No controllers work, not my DS4, Xbox One, or Switch

Go where? In the game or in some out of game program?
miguelaq Mar 21, 2019 @ 9:51pm
The solution is to open big picture mode and go to controller settings and select your controller. If PS4 controller is selected, go to controller configuration and change the trackpad input setting to none. Run the game in big picture mode.
