How to pick up enemy money?

I thought I read hold the interact key, maybe x on Xbox type of controller

Yeah it's just the interaction key, but you have to hold it, it'll auto-loot whatever is around you (just enemy loot).

and in case u were using keyboard & mouse like my self, then hold down the E button for looting dead mobs.

You can be too far away by the way. I thought it grabbed any lying around but I found out you have to be close enough.

I wonder why they made this change, adding separate button for looting, why wouldnt you want to loot the drop from the mobs:)
