Was just watching this video, puts a big smile on my face as it looks like a modern Tenchu :)

Ripping around up on buildings, jumping down on enemies, can't wait :)
The guy on this video who has played it said it reminded him most of Tenchu and Bloodborne.
Not to mention From Software did publish the underrated Tenchu Z :)
The one closest to Onimusha right now would be Nioh Imo. Especially when you use the spirit weapons. But anyways we're basically getting remakes /spiritual sequels of really good games and I'm good with that lol.
Dishonored is closer to Thief than Tenchu, but is really its own game.
Also, considering FromSoft made the original Tenchu games the comparison is more than valid for them making a spiritual successor. It's like how people who know the company can trace the dots back from Souls games to King's Field games. That's kind of the way I'm looking at this and Tenchu.
Of course it's not the same game, it's been 11 years since the last Tenchu released. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with the formula, and I'm just happy to have another FromSoft stealth game seeing as Dishonored and Styx are the only decent stealth games to come out in the interim.
"When we originally set out to create something different from Dark Souls and our previous titles, we thought it would be interesting to make a Japanese themed game. So from that we started going in the direction of the shinobi and ninja, and of course Tenchu was an IP with that history; that was the original impetus for this project. But as we developed and as we partnered with Activision, and started building it together, it started becoming its own thing and the game we wanted to make was no longer just Tenchu, so it really evolved into its own thing"

"We originally set out to create something like Tenchu but then Activi$ion got their spoon in our pot and kindly reminded us that Tenchu is ancient history current gamers couldn't give a crap about where as anything even resembling Dark Souls = $$$. Soooo...we did that instead! Enjoy our ninja skinned Dark Souls!!!"
*sigh*
...damn shame really...
That's the issue a lot of us have, and I think Strider's angle really hits the nail on the head.
