NO levelling, no stats or attributes, no armor or weapon upgrades. In fact, they said you use the SAME sword throughout the entire game, which is a huge bummer considering the different weapons builds and playstyles were one of the Soulsborne games best assets.
All you do is learn skills, theres no progression to speak of which means you wont be able to gain a few levels to make a section easier, itll just be banging your head against the wall till you beat it. Very disappointed with the direction From has taken this game, but I still have faith in them that itll be good.
You raise a good point though, and I agree that it seems like it will be more tedious than difficult. Apparently even trash tier peon mobs can parry and kill you in seconds, which doesnt sound difficult so much as irritating and overly demanding. Sounds like itll make every encounter a long process of methodically dodging, waiting for an opening, then getting a hit in, rinse repeat.
In addition to skills, you also get Prosthetic tools which functions like bloodborne magic.
You can find collectables in the game that increase your health and gourd (Estus flask)
permanently.
Dying has consequences on characters other than yourself.
There is less of a focus on dodging but there is a huge focus on parrying multiple hits as well as stealth in this game.
I doubt it will be harder, we just have to learn to play it like Sekiro and not like DS or Nioh. The "no leveling, no weapon upgrades" is offset by the fact you can increase your HP and Attack Rating as you progress and removes a way to brute force your way past areas you never really NEEDED to adapt to. That is the only thing that will be harder, you will have to actually learn to cope, not just power through the tough spots.
but you can call it parry simulator that will be more precise.
dodging blindly like in darksouls will kill you faster in this game. take for the example the first boss you will meet in the game will test you if you still using dodge blindly like darksouls or you understand the mechanic in this game. if you still using dodge as your primary means as defense he will punish you for that.
i will leave some video about this you can watch it or not up to you : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3SC3I0NsMI&t=649s you can start watching around 4:40 it will answer your question.
I also doubt this is the case. All of the prosphetic tools have really deep skill trees. It's possible you could get to a boss, realize a certain tool is the way to beat it, then choose to level up and put skill points into making that tool more powerful.
I'm fairly sure there will be chances to grind a little to power yourself up. Even if that means avoiding certain bosses and adventuring elsewhere to get attack/health upgrades. And really, forcing people to git gud is far better than giving them the option to get more numbers. That's what the game should be about.
Personally I don't mind when gameplay is hard to master, but the roll, duck, roll, hit, timing is simplistic and not hard, just tedius.
i played enough of those types of games back when I had a NES.
I haven't heard about the first part, so I'm going to need proof that it will influence the ending.
But yes, by dying too much you will afflict a so called Dragon Rot status on NPC's and the world.
Same thing with every game in existence. Once you get used to it, its easy. This will be as much of a "dodge" simulator as DS or BB is.
I don't know man. While I agree every game gets easier the more you play it... Have you seen some of the enemies you have to parry? There's 1 bug like enemy that makes me think of the EVO moment between Justin vs Daigo.

And then you have to think about the fact people are currently struggling with the beginning enemies which are undoubtedly going to get faster, stronger and a little bit more deceptive in how they attack the further you progress.
At least that's what I'd do as a developer.
I can definitely say I'm interested in seeing the reaction of people when this game comes out.
