Ishin - Last boss, first playthrough immortal severance
Anyone know a solid guide or strat to this guy? i cant get timing down for the parrys and i feel like i could beat him if i ran in circles and hit him every now and then once he does a combo but i dont wanna be there for 30 mins fighting. Any and all tips appreciated, just spent 3 days on demon of hatred and that was miserable, once i beat Ishin it will be my first souls game completed.

I thought the mortal blade moves required emblems? At least that's what it says in the description.

Some of the emblem requiring combat arts have a weaker variant when you have no emblems.

I havent tried it against him but from regular gameplay i remember that if i had emblems i did the follow up jump for air attacks and when the emblems where al out i just did the thrust.

"cheese" should be doable with it.

Ah ok, i haven't used any combat arts that said they required emblems yet apart from Shadow Rush because i thought they'd be better used on prosthetic gadgets.

when he does the spin attack in phase one, you can just stay close to him and take no damage?
Tried that, doesn't work. I get hit and it's instantly 90% of my HP gone. Tried standing right next to him, in front of him, and behind him when he's doing that spin and was hit every single time.

Finally beat him today. I was able to fairly easily go to the first spear phase with no issue but I got stuck there for a while.

For me what clicked was to actually ignore the youtube guides that suggest to run and deal with him from afar or those that expect perfect play. I just played him with a ton of pressure deflecting as much as I can. He does a few thrust that are easy to mikiri counter building high posture damage. When he whirlwinds a jump to the left at the last moment seemed to dodge the attack. One tip I have is to lower his health just after the end of phase 1 to give you a headstart as he doesn't summon the spear right away.

For the last phase I passed it on my second try. Just did same as phase 2 but add jumps + R1 when you see lightning attack.

Good luck.

Generally speaking getting more attack power does not help outside the first few upgrades. If you're dying constantly and you think being able to do 10% more vitality damage per hit would be the difference, you haven't learned the boss's moves and you're approaching the entire thing wrong. This is not Dark Souls; you cannot grind your stats to the point where bosses become easy.

My general advice for learning FromSoft bosses has always been to take a few tries at the boss without attacking. Just try to defend and stay alive as long as possible. When you are focusing entirely on how to avoid taking damage, you will intuitively learn the moments when it is safe to counter attack.

very good advice thank you

It’s not about position , it’s all about timing . I did it multiple times in this video ... timing is exactly the same . And spear phase hand animation is most noticeable. I understand you guys having difficulty, cos it’s like dodging monster roar with base iframes in Monster Hunter World , timing is really tight . So I suggest just run away if u can’t dodge because it hit really hard .

Your posture recovery seems a bit too high even tho you arent guarding..

Not sure what r u trying to say , posture recovery is like that when u r on full health . The game simply reward the player for playing with full health .

just need to git gud is all and i need all my souls veterans help

You can get all beads in Immortal Severance as long as you got the second bell early enough. Nothing will lock you out of the Immortal Severance ending other than the Shura ending.

It's not shown in that video, but both of Genichiro's opening attacks can be easily dodged by just sprinting behind him and starting to attack him. Sometimes he won't even use the second if you do this. There's no reason aside from flash to iframe them as you get two free hits per attack either way.

Also, you can parry Isshin's Ashina Cross and huge charged swings to take no damage (blocking takes chip damage) and inflict large amounts of posture damage to him if you do so, though the charged swings will knock you back so I'm not sure if you come out ahead of iframing them and having more time to punish. You can't parry the lightning charged swings, obviously.

im not sure if i get the bell early enough or not. Do you know where to the last two would be if i did?

You need to go to Purification path before going to fountainhead Palace I think . Then Emma will give u a bell that will teleport u to 3 years ago night stage . Then u will immediately meet with miniboss that give u 1 . And u will meet with another mini boss where previously drunken boss was there . Both are not missable if u go Purification path . After defeating Purification exclusive boss , u will get a key item . Progress the story normally and after defeating the sword Saint , the game will ask u which item u want to use . Depending on ur item usage you can choose normal , Purification and the return ending .

If you cant learn the parries and your at the end im sorry to say but you should have learned the combat system by now. Isshin gets progressivly harder and more aggressive each life. On his final phase you will get next to no room to breathe. Mikiri counter will be your friend on the first 2 phases. Learn to run away from un blockable attacks. Phase 3 i was low on healing items so i just kept baiting his jump attack, when he hits the ground id get him from behind then run away again.

Learning the combat system is not hard, the timing combined with how aggressive and fast the bosses are is, as is the vagueness of the telegraphs. There's literally a fraction of a second to figure out if it's a thrust or swing coming out you.

just relax and learn his 1st real phase until you can bully him.
He only has a few attacks and you can defend against all of it relatively easily.
Then you have a chance to actually beat his other phases.

I dont know much about his spear attacks, he seems to have a lot of variation, i just winged it and watched out for the thrust attacks.

last phase is like the 1st genichiro fight, just do the lightning stuff, its easier than the phase before it.
