Who is Robert? Spoilers
So in the game, you can purchase Robert's Firecrackers by one of the merchants. When you fight the Armored Warrior, as he is falling from the bridge, he yells out "Robert!!!"

Is this a developer or some inside joke? It's really odd to have a western name because Robert wouldn't be a common name among the japanese people in that era.

Who do you think is Robert?

Robert and his father (we don’t know his name) were European travelers who sold firecrackers in Japan. Robert fell ill, so his father brought him to Senpou temple in desperation, hoping to get the rejuvenating waters to cure his son. The monks set the giant man up as a guard to their temple and told him they would heal his son as long as he cooperated, but they pretty clearly manipulated him. Robert is almost certainly one of the dead children you can find lying around on the mountain.

Whoops, sorry, Robert was already ill before arriving in Japan. They went there in the first place to find a way to extend his life, and the firecrackers were sold to raise funds for their travels

Interesting. I must of missed that detail somewhere.

Part of it is from the description of the firecrackers (not the prosthetic tool), part from environmental info at the temple, and I think there was another bit of info somewhere mentioning it as well

I am on my 2nd playthrough so I will look into that.

European? They are "southern" people, not "Western".

Anyway, if you are ill, you better got to Yarnam. Their blood ministrations are wonderful.

Okay I see the description of the firecrackers from the merchant. I would be amazed if Robert's father's actually survied the fall!

Robert doesn’t sound like a very Japanese name to me, and the dad’s sword didn’t look like a very Japanese sword.

I do recommend yharnam doctors though, nothing could go wrong with miracle blood ministrations right?

Seems like some of the bosses in this game are not evil rather victims of circumstance.

Because the water from the temple is called Rejuvenating Water, it was produced by the monks as they attempted to recreate the Divine Heir of the Dragon. Drinking it makes people stronger, but makes them into monsters and isn’t true immortality.

The stuff from Fountainhead Palace is called Water of the Palace, it’s a “divine” drink consumed by the nobles. It’s what transformed them into slug people, and seems to allow them to suck vitality out of other living beings, extending their own life
