I don't think it looks like a bad game, but I'd be playing it for slightly different reasons than Sekiro. I'm not entirely sure its fair to compare them.
Keep in mind this is an early portion of the game, maybe a tutorial sort of segment. I don't expect it to be a Soulslike level of difficulty but it might be surprising.
Will probably at least be a rewarding game to play (too bad it's PS4 only)
Yeah, was going to mention Way of the Samurai but they seemed more about a random dude appearing while influencing the 'story'.
Again, I don't think comparing the two games is fair. Sekiro is a tailored experience while Way of the Samurai was more of a 'choose your own adventure' style of game. Hopefully Ghosts has a bit more structure but if the game is 'open world' as someone mentioned above then I'm probably going to take a pass.
Way of the Samurai combat from enemies and yourself were heavily based on weapons/skills so the pacing/aggression level could change drastically depending on what each party is using.
This doesn't really show any group fights, either, which could get crazy and it doesn't show any particularly elite/crazy fighters like Lady Butterfly/Owl which we can expect to possibly be another ball game entirely.
There may be more complexities as well like pulling your enemy off balance, upper and lower hits/guards/evasions, etc. I get the feeling the gameplay very lightly touched on the actual experience (honestly, prob a bad idea on their end but the may have still been too deep and early into development at the time).
I was under the impression that the combat was like Assassin's Creed. *shrugs*
April Fools Joke
But what i have seen from Ghost doesent impress me.
First of all enemies doesn't even bother to block or parry and just take the hits. At the very least from Sekiro, you can always expect the lowest goons to block at least one of your attacks.
Secondly, the ai is obviously scripted in group battles where they will only engage you one at a time like in the AC series. I fcking hate games that does that tbh. In sekiro fighting a group battle will get you pummeled if you don't position yourself well as enemies clearly doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about having a honorable fights.
Thirdly the arkham style of fear takedowns they showed at the middle portion just looks so copy and paste. Sure it isn't any better in Sekiro with the blood mist, but at least there in that system depending on how the enemy positions themself you can get only 2 of them in a group or even 4 of them in the group depending on how fast you are. In the system they show in the video it just looks so static where it's probably gonna be like the arkham series where you can only takedown so many people in a group not to mention it's basically free kill without any thought to it whereas is Sekiro you need to consider your spirit emblems.
Lets be real here.
Ghost will not topple Sekiro in terms of combat.
It has other strengths, such as beautiful graphics, open world, etc,..
Combat will not be one of them.
I think the point is that Ubisoft has had the same crap formula for combat since 2006. A horde of enemies will ambush you and you get to fight one-by-one with flashy moves that ultimately mean nothing.
Like I said, it's pretty much turn based combat.
