How the Heck Does Wall-Hug Deathblow Work?

I'm nearing the end of NG+, and I still haven't figured out how to make this ability work. I've tried leaning out around the corner the enemy is approaching, sticking behind the wall near the edge, and every time it fails, no matter how close the enemy gets to me while I'm hugging the wall. How the heck do you trigger this deathblow? It would be nice certain situations.

Press r1 when the enemy is close enough to display the red dot while you're leaning on the wall. There's no special thing about it.

Distance matters so if he's at an angle where he can spot you, he will most likely spot you before you get the prompt.

make sure you're locked on. if you use the finger whistle itll be guaranteed.

I've never gotten the red dot to appear, even when the enemy is right on top of me. The other day I was hiding behind a wall while one of the purple shinobi enemies approached from around the corner I was next to. I was undetected up until he was inches away, but no deathblow marker showed up.

I assume you have to be as far to the edge of the wall as possible, so Wolf is looking around the corner. I usually only get them if I pull enemies over with a ceramic shard or finger whistle.

whenever I'm leaning against a wall the enemy sees me way before any red dot can appear.

I gave up trying to get one. It's quicker to do a regular stealth deathblow.

Whelp, I guess these responses at least confirm that it's possible, if finicky. Thanks, everyone. I guess I'll find a place to test it and see if I can get a consistent method.

step 1 find a wall to hug, step 2, find a target next to a corner of the wall, step 3 make sure you pressing youself out on the wall side so that the animation looks like you peaking out of the corner, step 4 wait for the deathblow promth to show and hit R1 =D

The only wall-hug I've successfully done was in the very first area, at the first door. The guy in the grass field walks into the perfect spot for you to do it. The animation is really cool, I wish I could use it more.

I finally got it to work. Leaning turned out to be the trick; thanks to the people who said it was required. I wonder if the game wasn't properly displaying the deathblow indicator on previous attempts. I've noticed that you can sometimes perform a backstab before the red dot appears.
