Hit NPC by accident and now he won't talk to me

So I found the dude in the blue jar thing who wants scales at that manor place. I saw one of the carps really close to him and without thinking I sung my sword and hit him. Now he won't talk to me.

Is there a way to get his forgiveness so he will talk to me again like there was in DS?

Have you tried reloading the area?

If he still won't talk to you, don't worry. You can't get absolution in here like in DS, but there's another merchant like him who can sell all the stuff he does if you do a quest.

don't you need the item form him to do the quest ?
or does the other pot guy give you the item if you talk to him enough / buy him out?

The other guy does if you buy enough stuff.

The second pot noble you meet in the palace asks you to feed the carp with his special lure. If you do that, the noble in the past dies and the noble in Palace becomes a fish. He then starts selling both his and the other noble's inventory.

There is a secret quest that you can do later to kill the Giant Carp. You need to get the Truly precious bait from both pot nobles. You need to feed the truly precious bait to the Giant Carp that came from the pot noble in fountainhead so that the one in hirata will die. When the hirata pot noble dies, all of his items will be available to the fountainhead pot nbole.

You don't need both baits

Not all carps drop scales, right? Just checking. I know they even attack you when you swim in the abandoned dungeon, but i dont think they gave me anything when i killed some of them.
