Dragon Rot, Endings & Cheesing it? (don't care about spoilers in replies)
Tried a good 6 hours in a row to beat Genichiro on top of the tower for his 3 phase fight, progress is slow and i have died hundreds of times so far.

I'm going to go well over the max cap for however much damage dragon rot can do in the game.

Does dragon rot ever change an ending sequence or is it only player decision that can do that?
I have a feeling all dragon rot does is affect vendors, NPC quests and unseen aid, but not the narrative.

But assuming it does affect the narrative in some way, can you simply use a dragon blood tear item to cure the dragon rot before you continue past a plot point? and 10,000 deaths are just wiped off the record and no more rot?

Yeah, dragonrot won't negatively affect the ability to get endings in any way. All it does is lower your chances for unseen aid, and stops NPC quest-lines from progressing until you cure it. What I suggest is that you wait until after defeating a difficult boss to cure it, or until you actually need to progress the NPC storylines. I just finished NG+2 and am about to do my fourth run (which will probably be my final one, at least in the near future), and I've got like 25-30 saved up cures for dragonrot because of how many merchants have them and how common they are. As long as you don't cure it every five minutes, it's not a problem at all, just an inconvenience.

So don't worry about dying a lot. Just keep at it, and god luck with Genichiro. He's definitely a tough one to beat when you first face him, but once you get good enough to do so the game really "clicks." It gets more difficult after you fight him, but his fight is the one that truly teaches most players how to do well.

Nice xD Losing 50% xp and money means nothing when you are at an obstacle and have already lost all your money and xp, so unseen aid is kind of irrelevant imo anyway.

And if the dragon rot consequences can be wiped out completely with a single item, that you say is not even too rare, this makes banging my head against this wall a little more comfortable as I know there will be no lasting damage. ty for info

Dragonrot only affect NPC questline, if you don't bother to cure it then you're more likely to get the default endings(in a bad and good ways). Genichiro is easy, don't spam deflect, his movesets are literally the same in both phases except for the lighting, easiest way is to jump away or lightning reversal it.

I just beat Genichiro and I did use deflect a lot, i went out and got another couple of beads to make a new necklace and an extra gourd seed.

The funny thing is, on my successful attempt, I only used 2 heal gourds and no rez and the whole thing went by fast.

That extra prayer bead necklace is what made the difference, sure the HP upgrade is obvious, but that posture raise is pivotal, given how much time I put into the fight, It was second nature to trade parries and work my own attacks in at every oppertunity and i was doing fine.

However, his bow spam and combo attack, despite deflecting them was too much posture damage.

That 3rd necklace raised my posture just enough so that over a cycle of parrying eachother, my posture remained solid and I could either hold block a short time to recover or get a few "free" hits in after his onslaught stopped.

My hours practising before while not wasted as I know his moveset very well now, still meant it was not really possible to fully beat him within standard parry mechanics, at least not in the way I was trying to use them, which was very direct, I did try running away to recover posture in past attempts though, but that's when he simply used his bow, which i could dodge easy enough, but the movement and not blocking stance meant my posture did not recover enough, and the bow shot would either be blocked, but posture break me, or dodged and leave my posture where it was, too high.
