This is just my interpretation, so feel free to call me pretentious or whatever.

The way you start the fight is by praying at an altar.
So you’re not necessarily physically fighting a dragon in a cloud, but confronting the aspect of immortality you gained from the dragon blood in yourself.

In that case, it would make sense that the dragon you’re fighting is a reflection of you. You’re not fighting a literal dragon, just the dragon part of you.

Or it could just be that the Everblossom tree was the dragon all along and the branch that Owl cut off was his arm.

There's a bit of a running theme of characters and enemies only having one arm. Those purple cloaked ninja are missing their left arms as well

Don't know about that, some of them are hiding a poison dagger in their cloaks.

Aren't there two types of purple cloaks actually? One with like a hood on their head (not vilehand minibosses)? I think those are the poison dagger ones, while the others are missing an arm.

I should really go check and make sure I'm not spouting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

It's not really clear tbh, the cape makes it impossible to tell for normal ones.

They are not missing their left arms, they are just hiding them so that whenever they actually attack with them the enemy is caught off guard.

Yeah, I went and checked earlier and they do indeed still have their arms. Made me feel a bit of a fool here
