Genichiro Lightning of Tomoe
I’ve been playing for another 4 hours with this godforsaken boss battle. I’ve been able to beat his first two stages with a struggle and have been able to decently last long in his final stage, but his lightning swing gets me 100% of the time and almost always ends my chances of winning, his bow shot is easy to dodge in this stage so I just step to the side and continue to slash him, I’ve only been able to get his posture bar filled once before taking a very very very very hurtful loss. I need advice badly, this boss is driving me crazy.

Jump when he does his lightning attack and r1/rb it. You throw it back without taking damage

This is the best way.
It sounds to me like you’re getting worn down by the first phase, so by the time you make it to second phase your concentration is shot and your timing is off.
I’d grab a few skills, perhaps in Ashina for deflection posture damage so you can quickly finish the first phase and not get fatigued before lightning phase. Also eat some candies in the fight for attack power, posture defense, and eel liver for lightning resistance.

Fight very defensively. Always running around avoid go toe to toe with him. Once he jump, you stand still immediately. If it's a thrust attack, you spam circle button and counter it then you can score a free hit. If it's a lightning attack, you jump and take it mid-air and then press R1 before you land to throw the lightning back to him. now he lose a big chuck of hp and is also stunned, you can score a free hit and start running again and wait for him to do another jump.

Explore somewhere else. You might have other bosses you can fight. I gave up on him after two attempts, went exploring for a couple of hours, then beat him in two attempts.

You need to be able to kill him 2 times without needing a revive that way on his last form if you die you can still recover. Once you take his health to about half way you can posture break for deathblow easily enough. When i fought 2 pretty annoying bosses you will encounter later on i basically used the method of, if i die on the first bar ill just stay dead and no ressurect. I did this till i could defeat their first bar (out of the 2) without too much trouble or using no more than a third of my healing gourds.

Ik mouse and keyboard, not using a PlayStation Controller for this type of game, I was able to dodge his bow shot and get his posture bar to two hits from death before dying to him in stage 3

The problem is I’ve already explored the other areas, and all the mini bosses are too difficult, I just want to finish this guy and actually progress the games story since I almost can’t do anything else

I’ve never had a Probably with the bow attack, I’m taking about the sword slash.

It doesn’t matter, any lightning attack you can catch in the air and throw back

Ignore the posture game. All you need is catching lightning.
Lightning attack with sword can be catch. Just jump and take it with your face and R1 back to him.

You still take a tiny bit of damage actually, it’s only in the divine dragon fight near the end of the game where you don’t take chip damage from it

"but his lightning swing gets me 100% of the time"

His lightning swing is what makes the fight winnable, you counter it by jumping and pressing R1/RB/Mouse click, and he becomes vulnerable for free hits. His lighting attack is basically free damage.

I developed a pretty rock solid strategy against him. 2 to 3 runs of practice before I perfected it. Died once to lightning bs.

Equip Ichimonji: Double. When he goes for a lightning move, CHARGE HIM. He fires it way over your head and misses completely, allowing you to punish him with a double ichi combo. Rinse, repeat, victory.

I had a LOT of trouble with him on Phase 1/2. Phase 3 took a few tries to get to. But once I had him dead to rights with the punishes, he was at half health when his posture broke and I secured victory.
