Need help with 3rd and 4th stage of Isshin Sword Saint
I can manage to get to his 3rd stage without any problems except for utter frustration on having to relive the same 2 stages over and over again.

I don't want to run around the arena but I want a good strategy that doesn't cost me time and life.

My last fight I tried to stay as close to him so he wouldn't use his gun attacks but his freaking spear creates more trouble than I count. I try deflecting it but somehow I get deflect 1 moment and next swing of his totally nails me. So I start to back away to try to heal but this mofo doesn't even give me room to breath. He manages to close the gap really fast when I am trying to heal. LIke he is sprinting. I try to circle around the rock to get a healing but sometimes he does his spear spin attack. So naturally while healing I am taking damage through the freaking rock.

The last fight he did his famous spear slam followed up with another spear slam while I was on the ground insta killing me in the process.

Magnet umbrella is a god send for sword saint take it with you and use it his big AoE is completely negated with it removing the need to run around like a madman. After Isshin’s first DB you can keep the pressure on and build up a lot of posture damage before he does his “stomp” and pulls that enormous spear from god knows where. This will shorten the second stage considerably. The third stage is his easiest imo so long as you’re comfortable returning lightning attacks. Keep at it man you’ll get it

I figure that if I can lure him in throwing lightning around. I can stun lock him and build up posture damage quick.

The first stage with Isshin I am able to get him to do his thrust attack that allows me to do a counter.

Don't be afraid to jump in after him when he backs off. Can usually get in a hit or two before he blocks. Also he almost always follow up his gunshots with a long windup thrust so you can use that to get in some hits or mikiri counter.

He doesn't have any unblockable regular attacks far as I know so dunno how he's getting through your guard unless you stop blocking just before he hits, happened to me sometimes with failed deflects.

As said above the umbrella is great for denying his AoE slash and the chip damage that comes with it.

Also try to only heal after a mikiri. One of my early pitfalls with this fight was getting destroyed whenever I tried to heal normally. You can also make use of pellets instead of the gourd and then block until your health is back up.

For his 3rd and 4th phase my only advice is really deflect as much as you can and watch for spear stab for mikiri counter. Contrary to what guides are telling other players. waiting for him to attack is really not a good idea IMO, keeping close distance, hitting him once or twice then following up with deflects till he stops attacking and do it again really builds his posture fast, watch your posture meter tho as you may have to disengage from time to time. Also deflect overheads, idk why people are dodging them, if it's not unblockable, deflect it, it really helps build his posture meter faster.

For his 4th phase, watch out for his lightning attacks, that's what you're truly after, deflect those by pressing jump and attack and it'll stun him and you can do more damage and does ♥♥♥♥ ton of posture damage. don't over commit tho hit him like 4 or 5 times and deflect right away.

You litterally need to gid gud.

The only attack i would say is the hardest to deflect is the one when he starts with two sword slashes followed by a flurry of spear slashes, ending in a mirikiri counterable attack. The fast spear slashes is always what gets me.

4th phase is pretty trivial with lightning deflect.

Don't you know? Only good little kids get to see the fourth one.

The last phase is very easy just have to try and grab the lighinting in the air, once you nail this, it becomes super easy because if you do this three times he is pretty much dead. For his third phase unfortunately I had issues as well, you just have to keep trying until you can counter block his attacks with the spear perfectly even the ones that almost instant kill you as well.
