I HATE THAT POOP SLINGING GUARDIAN APE...
i can get by phase 1, most of the times he dont even do much damage to me.
but when he start running around headless i getting my *ss handed to me.
trying to make the 2 deflections in a row and then deflect again a 3rd time when he stab.
but somehow i have a hard time get the timing down on deflecting him.

guess i need to gid gud in my deflecting game. and here i thought i had a worked up a decent deflecting skill level.. but no, sekiro shadow die twice say other wice...

that said no matter how hard it is, how many hours i spend on this damn monkey.
i will never, ever cheat nor wish for an easy mode.
if this gonna take me days to beat this f*cking ape, then be it. the satisfaction gonna be so much better and more rewarding...

For me, the first phase is far more annoying. With the second phase, just time your blocks correctly, after three of four concurrent swings, he'll hold his sword above his head and slam it down, perfectly block this and he falls to the ground and you can get a good 4-5 hits in. As long as your blocking, and timing your blocks correctly, the second phase is a breeze compared to the first (no grabs to dodge, and no flying ape dung).

Good luck, OP. Yeah I think most players had a hard time with him the first time around unless you look up a guide or whatever. I was stuck on him for a few hours myself. The feeling of passing phase 1 for the first time only to realize there was a second phase is so hard to reproduce.

Best of luck to you OP. Good on you for not giving into cheats.

Second phase was a lot easier for me because of how telegraphed his swings were. Be ready to jump back when he does the AoE scream, make sure you never put yourself against a wall or you're gonna be in trouble.

I got him on my second try. First attempt I jumped down unprepared. Wasn't expecting the sunken valley to be so small of an area so I was still in exploration mode.

Second phase is about patience, he'll spam that AoE if you overstay your welcome. Try deflecting his sword swings while moving yourself behind him. He also has at least two attacks that leave him open for more than just two hits:
When he dives towards you and tries stabbing you. He usually does it when he's a bit far away. Instead of deflecting it just jump over it towards him and you can get some good hits on him while he's getting up.
His big overhead swing, if you deflect it he'll topple over. Another opening.
Oh, also his two perilous attacks, just jump over them towards him and give him some whacks.

He has a great delivery too.

I just met the ape last night myself. Haven't beat first part yet.

The second phase is way easier than the first one, his sword attacks are very predictable, therefore easy to deflect, just focus on deflections and you will fill the yellow bar to excute him very quick.

Oops, you are going to be shocked after this fight. Last boss took me about 10 hours to master his moves and to defeat him flawlessly. Just do not give up and practice, watch a guide video on youtube.

I learned with this fight that I have 4 ways to defend myself, parry, dodge, jump and running. The second phase is really susceptible to running attacks, mix that with your dodge and aim to hit his back.

One of my posts copied from another thread:

His second phase is actually much easier. He doesn't have that many attacks and many are well telegraphed.

His key attacks:
1. If he moves his head towards his neck, he's gonna scream. Dodge back & hold the button to run, or Lilac Umbrella it. You should be running before the dangerous warning. I didn't actually try, but Lilac Umbrella with Projected Force should do some significant damage since it's divine damage and he is weak to that.

2. Both his other dangerous moves are sweeps, one follows a jump. Jump yourself (you can Mario stomp his head after his jump-sweep for nice posture damage).

3. He does a belly flop slash, jump into him (over his slash) & he's open to hit 3 times.

4. When he swings straight down, deflect to give you a huge opening for spear pull, or for normal damage.

5. Otherwise, just deflect his attacks. Just be aware many have odd timings, the most dangerous being very rapid.

The ape can be defeated easily - if u remember what the game has teached u so far.

The most important thing is:
Phase 1:
It is an animal
Oil & fire, or firecrackers will make this phase of the fight a piece of cake.

U can even run or jump through most of his attacks without taking any damage.
lol

Phase 2:
He is simply a Headless.
He is bigger than the regular Headless but the rules r the same.
Mortal Blade, Divine Confetti & Loaded Spear (Thrust) will do the job.
NOTE: Mortal Blade will even stop his terror AoE.

If you think the Ape is bad now, wait until you have to fight a phase 1 and 2 Guardian Ape at the same time in an even smaller fighting arena.

This fight is also very easy
I just killed them in my 3rd try.

Easy win:
Oil & fire @ Phase 1 ape as soon as he appears & he is @ 70%.
Let him burn or/and hit him with Mortal Blade if u wish & he is at 50%.
U can do this 2 times & the Phase 1 ape is almost dead.
Focus on Phase 2 ape only if needed bc Phase 1 ape does more moves.
U can use firecrackers if the chaos is hard.
This way u can separate them some secs.
