Obviously a nod to Tomoe Gozen. And I would pay anything to get DLC with her as a lead character.
As I posted elsewhere in the forum about this game:
And of course that Tomoe Gozen was based on the historical figure.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomoe_Gozen
Much of what we know about her has been lost to antiquity. Although she is seen in some drawings with a naginata, she was know to fight a katana. Legend says she was worth a thousand warriors. In the Heike Monogatari (I have versions by McCullough, Tyler, and Yoshikawa) it is said:
He did talk about Genichiro 'coming back' to get the second mortal blade and Isshin is dead by the time you have to face him again.
Emma is talking about her while looking at the grave so it is safe to assume so.
Make the DLC a full story prequel.
Regardless, we have a precedent for time travel and memory funkiness with Hirata Estate so even if she is dead, well, maybe we kill her in the DLC. Or something. The Purification ending kind of writes a blank check for whatever the hell the writers want.
No I want the player character to be Tomoe.
