NG+ ... Can't get out of the well

The opening you normally escape from is closed up. I went the other way and got to the Bottomless Pit, but that's not leading me where I need to go. I'm so confused.

it sounds like you are coming in from the other side very late game as you can't get to the bottomless pit at the start as you don't have the prosthetic yet

I made my way through the underwater passage, then out through the castle. Some of the basic enemies were acting friendly, complete with dialogue of them asking for help, and the late-game red shogun and purple shinobi were present and fighting them, and I started with the grappling hook and all that. It's as if when I started NG+, the game didn't actually reset its state and just picked up where it left off minus everything being on fire...which it wasn't. I started a whole new game and it seemed to reset itself and I started with Kuro's Charm. Really not sure what happened, very strange bug.

Well, Mr. flow, you're incorrect. That's exactly what I chose. It looks like it's a bug that happened.

I'd use the Homeward Idol, go to the Idol in the Shrine, and see if the NG option is still available there.

So just to clarify in your game Sekiro doesn't have a prosthetic arm or a sword and the well is closed up at the same time?

Since he said he's able to get to THE PIT, it sounds like he has the arm. I don't know if the well is closed up after the final Ashina invasion (To my knowledge you can't even get there), but sounds like he's trapped there for some reason.

I'm sure the Idol will still be able to reach the Shrine, though. Waiting to hear back about that.

Sekiro has his arm, has the grappling hook, doesn't have any of the items (including Homeward Idol) but still has the Mortal Blade, all vitality and attack power upgrades and Combat/Shinobi Arts...but the cover to the well is closed like it is in the endgame and Sekiro is trapped inside. Many of the states of enemies are like they are in the endgame as well including the presence of the purple shinobi and the red shogun. It's as if the game reset the Wolf back to his starting position (mostly), but forgot to undo the final Ashina invasion. Really strange.

And by "has his arm" I mean his arm. Not the Shinobi Prosthetic.

did you record any of this? did you do anything that could have caused this to happen? this could be a cool thing for speedruns if it can be exploited!

Negative, I recorded'n't it. All I did was select "Hey hi hello start playing a second runthru the ending I got wasn't cool enough" so let's see some sub 10min runs.
