Well, they had to scale it like that. If you could realistically max out every skill tree AND get 2-4 uses of the mask without a lot of grinding, then it'd be unbalanced as all hell. It would trivialize NG+. I think a lot of people already underestimate how powerful the attack power upgrades really are - in any run where you aren't going for this achievement, I'd definitely recommend only taking the best few skills and saving the remaining points you end up with for the mask. Especially if you plan on doing Purification.
I'll take it on the chin - I didn't have this achievement in mind during my first playthrough, and because of that I've kind of screwed myself over, and the 2-3 hour grind I'm left with it my own fault.
I wouldnt farm more than that. It is very boring.
Yeah, but.. Realistically, most players aren't going to push that far just to grind. The time it would take might as well have been spent farming on just regular NG+. Unless you're trying to complete everything on a single save.
Well, "don't farm Antechamber" is the best solution I have for that particular problem.
At the end of the game, with any ending other than Shura, go to Ashina Outskirts - Stairway, hook yourself up into the tower, backstab the dude, drop down and backstab the dude beneath it. Run through the burning gate, backstab the next dude. Run along, backstab the sword guy, slap the cannoneer around, then run through the gate (ideally having killed Shige of the Red Guard) and charge up the hill the backstab the guy patrolling the door. Shuriken, the guy with the frying pan. Run up behind the big boss with his back to you. Kill the riflemen around the corner, ambush the two swordmen clearing the bridge, kill the riflemen, idol back for a reset and go again.
On NG+, this routine nets 13.563 XP and, even at my extremely high level (having used dragon mask three times before decided to grind out all skills) each level takes roughly 12-15 minutes. That's about 4 skillpoints an hour. by the end of it, I anticipate spending just about three hours total grinding out the last coupel of skillpoints.
If you're on a higher NG+, then obviously this is even more rewarding.
So far, being an experienced farmer, this is the location I've determined to be the most optimal for grinding XP, with the added bonus that, if you can be bothered to hold X, you'll be drowning in pellets, Ministry Dousing Powder, Oil and Fulminated Mercury.
Maybe but just killing the same three dudes gets boring. I also prefer the outskirts and clear out everything up until the bridge. The strong enemy with the dual swords near the bell can be plunge attacked. Gives ya decent XP too

First of all, are you sure? Because I think the post-Shige run is actually faster, and if you just do the first 5 enemies of Outskirts - Stairway, you don't have to use the idol either.
Add to that the fact that Stairway is less unberably noisy. The flutes drive me up a wall.
All in all, I'd say I've spent 6-7 hours grinding in this game altogether, including grinding out crafting materials.
