Leprosy at the Gunfort?
Is it just me or seems like the enemies at Gunfort all seem to have Leprosy? I'm drawing this conclusion because it seems like everyone is wrapped in bandage and wield rifle which reminds me of Princess Mononoke.

Is there a historical relation between Leprosy and guns in Japan?

Might be powder burns from all the gunpowder they use. Those gun guys also live in the poison swamps, so it could have something to do with that

Japan has a history of shaming and shunning 'outsiders' (Including everything from race, to physical health) but the relationship we see with guns isn't specific. Just coincidence of media and such. (Because guns beat swords, and empowering the less powerful, is a big message in such films)

I'm pretty sure it's just coverage though. Like how Sekiro himself has wrappings around his body that really don't hold anything together.

The Monks have it too, especially noticable on the guy hanging out in the "boss" arena you fight the Folding Screen Monkeys in. It's some sort of decay. It's never explained, but I guess the Gunfort guys are suffering because they hang around a poison swamp plus maybe they're suffering poisoning from all the lead and sulphur they use in their firearms etc. Carrying around and using yellow gunpowder and fulminated mercury on a daily basis probably isn't good for your health and wellbeing, lol.

As for the monks, well they're a bunch of degenerates. Worshipping the centipedes and living in squalor etc, it's probably something to do with the affliction and being in close proximity to so much undeath and decay.

A gun would be a rather poor weapon for someone with leprosy as it tends to cause degeneration in ones eyesight as well as your peripheral nerves.

I drew to the conclusion because from what I understand many Leprosy sanctuary in the past have been Buddhist temples in Japan. Snake Eyes' hood reminded me what a Nun would wear and their weapon (a rifle with a cross spear) Spear/Naginata being the most common choice for Buddhist monks. As for Seikrio I meant how they have body wrapped from top to body including the entire face from other media I've seen are usually signs that the person in question is suffering from physical deformities as a result of the illness.

Then again from what I know Dark Soul drew a lot of inspiration from Berserker series so maybe it's just making a nod towards Mononoke and I'm over thinking it.
