What is the purpose of the Hidden Tooth?
So I granted the undying guy back at the dilapidated Temple a quick death. I really found him to be not really useful. I mean some of the techniques that you can learn are easily manage compare to the enemies in the game. Like the Mikiri counter is easy with him since he just stands right in front of you but it feels like a guessing game in the game itself.

However I got a hidden tooth and it describes that it gives an instant death. My question is why would you want to do that? I just don't see the need for it.

Well by dying on purpose and triggering a resurrection you could use this opportunity to stealth kill a particularly annoying enemy or set up a stealth kill chain with Ninjutsu.

These are pretty obscure use cases and ultimately not really a better option than just..disengaging.

Ah I see, so far I haven't used it

That, and you can use your... "other"...? resurrections even without killing enemies first. So like if you are fighting a boss but have already died in a particular phase, you can Tooth so that you can get another resurrection in the same phase if you have one available.

And yeah, its usage is definitely obscure. It's not something you would likely want in your quick item slots.

Oh that's actually an idea I like quite a bit, hadn't thought of that.

Not sure if I am understanding you. You can get another resurrection by using the hidden tooth?

I heard that Hidden Tooth can makes you stay in fake-death state longer than usual death. Never try it though.

It's basically an infinite use "Bite Down" as well as probably being a bit of a lore item - either Hanbei was a shinobi at some point, or he was so determined to die, he started using death pills in order to find out.

The ability to kill yourself is suspect at best. While enemies tend to put away their sword and walk off, if you don't resurrect yourself you'll eventually just die anyway - it costs a resurrection token, but doesn't apply a timeout period. IT IS possible to die and wait long enough for enemies to move away from you in order to sneak away or get another stealth kill, but it's not reliable at all - sometimes enemies will just instantly aggro again the minute you stand up.

Why they didn't add a ninja rebirth item to the game, legit ninja log, that you could probably use alongside it so when you died you exploded into a cloud of smoke, hiding yourself from enemy sight like the bloodsmoke ninjutsu does, allowing you to escape, I don't know.

Very uninspired item indeed.

I consider it valuable only for the case of accidentally getting into an area you shouldn't, and being stuck. I.E if you somehow escape the tutorial area at the start of the game, and head to Castle Ashina, you can trigger the boss fight with Genichiro despite not having even rescued Kuro or even had your arm cut off yet - but Genichiro won't be there, you'll be stuck in an eternal boss battle, and you can't even kill yourself etc, which makes the Bite Down death pill a very useful tool indeed for cases like that.

Also note, if you get stuck in a falling animation either by falling through the world or getting stuck on an object or terrain glitch, you'll float for about 30 seconds and then just die (with a unique death scream too) as well, with no chance of resurrection but 100% chance of Unseen Aid. It's a neat little thing the developers included just in case.

It's also great if you are attempting no damage boss kills since you can end the fight immediately once you get hit

The dumb part is that this will not work 90% of the time because the enemy AI doesn't handle alert states well and they will face your direction walking back or immediately become alert again after you revive unless you have lured them a rather substantial distance away from their normal route/holding spot and then WAITED until they walked back almost the entire distance so they wont hear you reviving.

Against normal enemies I've had death stealth work pretty well.

I'm pretty sure a miniboss is simply programmed to detect you though which will then alert everyone else.

No, later in the game you can get additional resurrections. However if you die twice without killing anything, you don't get to use those additional ones.
However if you use Bite Down/Tooth, you don't have to have killed anything to have access to the additional resurrection.
