She was actually saved from a battlefield by the Sculptor during his Shinobi days, mirroring Wolf being saved by Owl. Difference is that she was adopted by the Doctor afterwards, rather than being raised as a Shinobi.
Ema is a Japanese name and not that extremely unusual.
But like.. the name and look is intentional and it's not as though it's an outlandish idea. Given the time periods at play here it wouldn't even be a particular historical stretch.
I think the ash-white splotch on Sekiro's face is supposed to be an effect of the Dragon's Blood. I'm almost positive someone (probably Emma) mentions it at some point.
And of course the pronunciation would be different if it were a Japanese 'Ema'.
