Is Emma supposed to be hafu?
Her name is Emma (even in the Japanese dialogue) and she has very light brown hair. So is she supposed to be half Japanese? Please no spoilers except to answer the question.

i know this kind of sucks as an answer but i tought it might be better than no answer at all im fairly certain there is no definitive answer for this in-game

It's not really addressed but given the name and features it's probably the most likely conclusion.

In a conversation prompt she mentions training as a doctor as a very young girl. Maybe that's just how life was in that day and age, but to me it seems plausible that she was orphaned and taken in by the doctor guy. But yeah as far as I can tell, definitely nothing definitive.

She was actually saved from a battlefield by the Sculptor during his Shinobi days, mirroring Wolf being saved by Owl. Difference is that she was adopted by the Doctor afterwards, rather than being raised as a Shinobi.

Ema is a Japanese name and not that extremely unusual.

Ema might be, 'Emma' with distinctly western features is somewhat more telling.

Just like how Owl is (idk. 7 feet tall?) and Wolf has his (nearly unexplained) ash-white face.. I'm pretty sure Emma's design is meant for beauty, not ethnical or historical accuracy.

Well the thing with his face is explained as well as it could be but sure it could be that.

But like.. the name and look is intentional and it's not as though it's an outlandish idea. Given the time periods at play here it wouldn't even be a particular historical stretch.

I think the ash-white splotch on Sekiro's face is supposed to be an effect of the Dragon's Blood. I'm almost positive someone (probably Emma) mentions it at some point.

Could be just the translation, as far as I know it's just エマ in the Japanese version. But some Japanese guys suggest she might come from Korea - would fit the herbal / spiritual medicine theme

Worth noting that her name is also in Katakana so probably why it's 'Emma'.

And of course the pronunciation would be different if it were a Japanese 'Ema'.

I just thought it was a nod to the NPC in DS3. Also Miyazaki's infatuation with Emma Watson.

Might just be something as simple as her Christian name. It was common for converts to be given a western name by the Jesuits. Her being trained in medicine suggests a Jesuit education also.
