It reminded me a lot of wrath of heaven, which I believe was PS2 and from what I've been told? It was suppose to be a tenchu game originally, which is why I'm super surprised we didn't get a rikimaru outfit for beating the game.

It's an awesome game however. It's very hard, I think the most challenging game I played but you have to learn the strategy and get better. It's great.

It doesn't play anything like Tenchu, this game is focused on action and not stealth, the stealth gameplay is pretty much AssCreed tier but worse. Enemies can see you from miles, or at times through walls, killing one guy alerts the entire camp regardless of whether they saw it or not, unless you are far away. If you kill a guy far enough away to not alert the entire camp then patrolling guards will walk right past the corpse and not acknowledge it and even stand right next to it and notice nothing lol.

If you're thinking of buying get it for the combat and brutal boss fights cos this is not a new Tenchu game.

Well considering its made by From Software who also worked on

Tenchu 3 Wrath of Heaven PSP port
Tenchu: Fatal Shadows
Tenchu: Dark Secret
Tenchu Z
Shadow Assault: Tenchu
Tenchu 4 Shadow Assassins

I wonder...... just dont expect it to be completely Tenchu they kinda mixed in their ideas from the Souls games into Sekiro

The worst games in the franchise apart from Wrath of Heaven but even Froms involement here is a handheld port.
The best Tenchu titles were Stealth Assassins, Birth of The Stealth Assassins, and the PS2 version of Wrath of Heaven, of which From had nothing to do with.

This game feels very much like Tenchu. All though last I played Tenchu was 15 yrs ago when I was a lil kid.

Oh i loved that game and this is probably as good if not better.

I was about to say the same thing.

The combat in this game believe it or not lets you build upto boss fights. The early Tenchu games were exactly the same as the early splinter cell games. Full stealth all the way, if you got into direct combat you would pay the price. Only difference being you couldnt stealth boss fights in tenchu and because you got so used to playing stealth alot of the toe to toe encounters were tough.

Onikage and the big guy in the buddhist temple in tenchu 3 were tricky from memory.

The stealth is an optional gameplay style just like it was in wrath of heaven, which this game holds the most resemblance to unless you count Tenchu Z. The boss fights were not stealth at all and relied on the person learning the combat to beat. Hell, even the main villain of Wrath of heaven resembles Genichiro when he becomes more evil =P.

The Tenchu games were amazing, and I read somewhere where in early development of what became Sekiro it was even going to be a Tenchu game. But the end product is nowhere near a Tenchu game at all, there are parts (about 30-70 of the same feel), but the meat of this game is cling-cling-clang sword fighting. The game would have been better imho if there was far more eavesdropping and not being seen, and infiltration etc.

This game feels nothing like Tenchu. Literally, the only elements from Tenchu it has are grapple hook, roof tops you can wander on, and stealth kills (tho only the wall/hanging kills work the same). Would love a good Tenchu release.

The boss fights not being stealth based in Tenchu doesn't make Sekiro like Tenchu or a successor. If you could stealth kill bosses they would be pointless. And it's the action that's optional in Wrath as Tenchu was always a stealth first franchise, saying the stealth is optional is like making out that Hitman is an action first with optional stealth franchise. And at least the stealth was good and worked in Tenchu.

Tenchu is the better game
Hatchetforce Mar 28, 2019 @ 6:14am
It is awesome. And some of the boss fights can be initiated with stealth but not finished with it. I played the first Tenchu (not a FS title though) at launch. When I finished the prologue of this game and was making my way to my first boss, this uncontrollable feeling came over me and suddenly all the good things I experienced in those Tenchu titles came flooding back. This game is a must have.

Speaking of Onikage... he's actually referenced in this game, Gyoubu's Horse is named after him.
