Hidden Forest, aka what the frick is that area?
I've been fine with the difficulty of the game thus far, but having an area with Hirata Estate reused enemies as illusions that you can barely see + dogs is just stupid. Then you have another one of those headless things that slow you down and that basically have infinite health unless you have confetti and there's Dunkard 2.0. Oh and the enemies seem to respawn without resting.

I also feel like I'm doing something wrong. I've only met two proper bosses so far and Ashina Depths was the last unexplored area with the exception of that headless thing when you go to Senpou Bell via the hidden path in Ashina Outskirts I believe it was. Am I even supposed to be in Hidden Forest already?

Hidden Forest is probably the best area in the entire game, I'm not sure why you hate it so much. The atmosphere is top notch.

Also, game has very few actual bosses. Most encounters are with mini-bosses, which are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere in this game.

It's fine to explore hidden forest. I usually finish this entire stretch before even fighting the castle boss, even tho you unlock the castle earlier.

Go past the drunken guy and around the cliff. You will get on top of the temple roof and be able to drop down and kill the guy causing the illusions and fog. This should help you clean up the rest of the area.

Also yea I think you are here too early if you have only met two "proper bosses". Try exploring other routes.

Because it's no fun constantly running into enemies that you weren't aware were there before, especially the dogs that very quickly just turn invisible when they're a few meters away. Also no fun having them constantly respawn. I suppose if I kill whatever is creating the illusions, they'll go away but still.

I know, but there's like supposed 12 actual bosses only two of which I have actually ever met.
I feel like I've missed stuff.

Oh. Well I guess that sure would solve a lot of problems. My adventure in Hidden Forest thus far: Explored, ran into illusions, I was like wtf, ran into headless guy, nope'd away, explored more, found out theres illusion dogs and archers, found out they deal a TON OF FRICKING DAMAGE, died twice but used resurrection, came to the house where the music came from, I was confused, tried to find a way up, couldnt find one, ran around aimlessly until I ran into the drunken guy, THE MONKEYS DEAL SO MUCH DAMAGE, and then I died to the boss and had no more resurrection. Then I was like: ooooooohkaaaaaaaay imma take a break for now.

As for other routes, uhhhhhhh, hint? I suppose I didn't properly explore Ashina Castle because there's two "Does not open from this side" doors.

you aren't supposed to go down where headless is until you're ready to deal with him.

as far as alternatives go, been to Senpou or Sunken Valley yet?

1-All enemies deal enormous amounts of damage tbh.

2-Game has only 9 mandatory boss fights, 2 of which are against the same enemy so I wouldn't really count them as separate, and 4 that are optional, 2 of which are locked behind one of the endings.

3-There's nothing wrong with tackling the woods this early. The enemies in it aren't any stronger than the rest of the game (the entire area is actually very easy when compared to something like Gun Fort), the only issue is that you can't see where to go.

Well I figured as much, I just so happen to accidentally run into him and it confirmed my theory that it is indeed the same guy that I've met before and skipped. Shortly after aggroing him, I ran away, or rather I jumped away because that was faster than walking.

Well I pretty much fully cleared Senpou and got the Senpou Skill Book thingy. I've also been to Sunken Valley and the Gun Fort, but the Gun Fort is also a dead end. There's a locked door that I cannot open yet. I've met the giant serpent too, stabbed it in the eye. Dunno where that path lead me to again.

You missed a path in the upper part of Ashina Castle, I think.
