How do I install a game save?

The day before yesterday when starting a NG+ I had this weird problem where everything didn't really reset? This was my third playthrough and I spawned somewhere random with my sword and mortal blade. After some googling I found that a lot of people had this problem.

My friend has a game save basically similar to what I had lost and I was wondering how I could put it into the game. I've tried everything but all I get is "failed to load save data". I'm unlucky as I know the patch that came out recently fixed that problem!

Does anything know how I can install this new save file?

Installing a new save file pretty much requires you to mess around with the file itself so that the game accepts it since it is tied to your steam account.

Tried but it doesn't seem to work with the new update!
