But since you made it this far, you should be able to breeze through the game to get back to this point in no-time.

Actually the Shura ending is more difficult because it has attacks with status effect. So you can't just deflect/block attacks as easily.
You can't get both routes in a single playthrough. You could make a backup of your safe and then replace them after the fight to repeat it. Or you could just replay the story on NG+ for the different endings. Takes longer obviously but is the intended way and for one achievement you have to play both routes in one safe because otherwise it won't register that you killed all the bosses.
If you are refering to shock (because that's all I can think of that is going to hit you in the first place) that should be deflected at all times anyway.
And the whirlwind can just be jumped over if you can't deflect it properly.
I mean you can get out of the way during the Shura ending as well but that's usually 9 out of 10 attacks compared to other endings one every once in a while.
In addition to mortal draw, Ashina Cross will do chip damage if blocked instead of deflected, although that happens in both ending paths.
Saints Sword does Ashina Cross? Interesting. Never did in my fights.
He does it after sheathing, but like the fire version, if you move towards him he'll cancel it into a one slash followed by sweep combo.
